Job description

Are you looking for the right career and lifestyle move? Do you want to make an impact on the future of the MidCoast community? Here is an unique opportunity to kick a career goal while you enjoy an incredible lifestyle on the beautiful Barrington Coast.

The role

MidCoast Council's Land Use Planning team are currently seeking a Land Use Planner for a maximum term contract up to 12 months. This position will work closely with Council, our community, development industry and government agencies to deliver sustainable Land Use planning controls for our region. Being a merged Council, we are working towards one set of planning controls for the MidCoast, replacing the current three sets of controls. The breadth of work for these roles is extensive, from drafting a Local Environmental Plan, Development Control Plan and Development Contribution Plan through to engagement and implementation of these plans. The Land Use Planner also provides strategic advice to a range of stakeholder groups, and contributes to preparing and processing planning proposals, developing place strategies, and creating Planning Agreements.

Strong collaboration, engagement and communication skills are essential in order to negotiate and influence outcomes for Land Use Planning initiatives across a diverse range of stakeholder groups. Demonstrated ability to problem solve and juggle multiple project timelines within regulatory and strategic frameworks will be integral in delivering innovative, practical and ecologically sustainable Land Use planning solutions.

What you'll bring

  • Working knowledge of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act and other relevant legislation.
  • Tertiary qualifications in town planning or other appropriate discipline.
  • Demonstrated relevant experience in strategic Land Use planning or urban design.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake the full range of strategic planning projects with minimal supervision, and ability to work in teams.
  • Highly developed communication skills and experience in effective community consultation.

What we offer

  • Long service leave when you’ve been with us for over 5 years.
  • Above Award Parental Leave provisions.
  • Generous leave entitlements.
  • Flexible work options, including a hybrid model of working from home and the office.
  • Work in a modern office that provides a variety of work settings supported by the right technology.
  • Ongoing personal and professional development programs.
  • Study assistance and study leave.
  • Journey to work cover.

Salary: Salary range $88,701 - $103,116 p.a. plus superannuation (subject to skills and experience).

Location: This position will be based at our Administration Centre in Yalawanyi Ganya at 2 Biripi Way, Taree. You may be required to be based from other Council sites across the MidCoast Council region.

Tenure: Maximum term contract up to 12 months, full-time position

Closing Date: Wednesday 31 January 2024 at 11.30pm.
