Status: Full Time Position

Commencement Date: Term 2, 2024

Position Location: Burgmann Anglican School, Forde Campus, Corner Francis Forde Boulevard and Hurrell Streets, Forde

Burgmann Anglican School is an Early Childhood to Year 12 School with campuses located at Gungahlin and Forde.

The school prides itself on its innovative and creative approach to curriculum and education and its strong sense of community and pastoral care of the students and their families and the staff of the school. The school has a strong link with the Gungahlin Anglican Church which shares facilities and resources with the school.

Terms

A Leadership Allowance (Level 1) and 0.2 release will be paid, commensurate with the responsibility of the position.

LINE MANAGEMENT

  • Responsible to the Deputy Head of Middle School (Culture and Wellbeing), Head of Middle School and ultimately the Principal.

LEADER OF CULTURE AND WELLBEING (0.2 RELEASE)

  • Lead the development of Culture and student care across a year level
  • Act as the first line of referral in student wellbeing matters, working closely with the wellbeing team
  • Foster a culture of care and support students within the year to understand and embrace the School’s values
  • Understand, apply and share relevant research in the area of Positive Education to meet the needs of young adolescents
  • Engage with the Whole School Wellbeing progressions and assist teachers in the implementation of the School’s Behaviour Guidance approaches
  • Use data to inform and improve wellbeing practices across the year level
  • Effectively communicate with parents within the year level regarding wellbeing issues and support colleagues in their communication with parents
  • Lead staff engagement with the student pastoral care tab, ensuring student records are up-to-date
  • Be a member of the Student Care Team and collaborate on student care plans
  • Oversee and co-ordinate the transition of students into and out of the year level
  • Actively communicate with parents about the activities being undertaken in the year level through the Portal and through attendance at Middle School events
  • Oversee the Camp/Outdoor Education program for their year level
  • Assist teachers in the organisation of excursions/year level events/house events

 Teaching Duties

  • Responsible for the pastoral care of a class of Middle School students
  • Teach with a focus on developing higher order thinking skills
  • Demonstrate a passion for effective teaching and learning
  • Collaborate effectively with teaching colleagues
  • Contribute effectively to curriculum development
  • Liaise with students and parents
  • Participate in the school’s co-curricular program which may include weekend activities
  • Attend staff meetings and professional development
  • Support the Christian ethos of an Anglican School
  • Other duties as required

Selection Criteria

  • A Teaching qualification
  • Experience in teaching the Australian Curriculum and the ability to contribute effectively to curriculum development
  • A passion for effective learning and teaching
  • An interest in working with adolescents
  • The ability to work collaboratively with colleagues
  • The ability to plan a differentiated learning and teaching program aimed at meeting students’ learning styles and varied academic needs
  • A commitment to the ideals and ethos of Middle Schooling
  • Demonstrated skill and experience in outcomes-based planning and assessment
  • Demonstrated skill and experience in developing learning experiences that promote higher-order thinking
  • The ability to effectively integrate ICT into classroom learning experiences
  • Willingness to participate in the school’s co-curricular program

Salary, Terms and Conditions

The successful applicant will be employed under the Independent Schools ACT Standards Model (Teachers) Enterprise Agreement 2021.  Salary will be determined according to qualifications and years of experience.
