Arbor Centre is based in Wattle Grove and has around twenty employees.
About the Job
We are now looking for a motivated Leading Hand who is able to work consistently and productively with a small team, initially under direct instruction.
Take responsibility for exercising and developing your recognised skills and credentials in a supervisory capacity as Leading Hand, in supporting the TSR in meeting high level of arboricultural practice and professionalism in their day to day transplant operations; in collaborations with the Operations Managers and division managers and other team members; to meet quotation objectives in a manner that is safe and efficient, and that enhances Arbor Centre’s reputation in tree supply and relocation services; and in meeting the quality objectives of the TSR division.
We are looking for a focused individual who approaches tasks using care, attention to detail, and caries a sound awareness of their surroundings. Horticultural experience and First Aid will be an advantage.
Our Tree Transplant team can experience some occasional travel within WA, with possible interstate and overseas travel on rare occasions.
All our workers are required to operate at high Occupational Health and Safety standards.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of the work site and with the implantation of risk and hazard plans required at each site.
- General maintenance of vehicles and plant including booking in for servicing for TSR.
- Ordering of any equipment or products required for TSR e.g., guying and prepping supplies.
- Assist in setting out appropriate site requirements.
- Direct and participate in all aspects of the works as directed by the TSR Operations Manager.
- Ensure that personal behaviour and communications complies with all safety requirements and is in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- During cranage lifts and aerial operations, help coordinate the crew to work in intimate collaboration with the tree transplanting operatives to meet identified objectives &/or as directed.
- Direct and assist in the clean-up of each work site as directed by the TSR Operations Manager.
- Ensure, upon return to base that all personal equipment receives the required maintenance and/or repair and confirm attendance records as directed by the TSR Operations Manager.
- Direct and assist in the cleaning and maintenance of general plant and equipment.
- Actively seek feedback from the crew on matters that are important to them.
- Discuss any issues that may have arisen during the day’s work with the TSR Operations Manager.
- Complete (or gather) and submit by end of work day, all required written reports (Incidents, Hazards, Near misses, Accidents, Police reports --- etc) and submit to Transplant Operations Manager;
- Assist in “on the job” training as directed.
- Exercise authority as required to deputise responsible crew members in taking on the role of temporary Works Supervisor.
- (Being a temporary Works Supervisor means having delegated authority to oversee other crew members in exercising a particular task).
- Remaining on site during field operations as required without putting Arbor Centre at risk through inappropriate delegation of authority to Arbor Centre personnel or other parties
Skills & Experience
We will be looking for the following qualifications/skills:
- Possession of valid current WA C class manual licence (Required)
- Possession of valid current WA HR class licence (Required)
- Police clearance (Preferred)
- Construction Safety Awareness / White Card (Required)
- Possession of Excavator Ticket (Required)
- Possession of Dogging & Rigging Ticket (Required)
- Current First Aid certification (preferred)
- Experience in the landscaping/horticultural industry (Preferred)
- Demonstrated ability to work as a productive and proactive team member
- Demonstrated ability to follow directives as well as exercise initiative
- Good communication skills
