The Learning Assistant will contribute to the provision of a quality educational service by providing additional educational support for students individually and in small groups across the Middle and Senior School and supervision of students who have study lessons. Applications are invited for a Learning Assistant (Middle/Senior Years) to commence immediately. This role is part-time, working 65 hours per fortnight, 8.00am to 3.15pm, some afternoon duties may be required.
Key duties will include:
- Work with students as individuals or in small groups to assist with their learning
- Support the Learning Enhancement Team by
- Collecting or developing teaching resources
- Setting up and supporting students with ICT requirements
- Setting up and supervising examinations
- Undertaking administrative duties e.g. taking phone calls, student observations, tracking notes and NCCD documentation
- Supervision of students on study lessons:
- Support students who may need additional assistance to achieve particular learning outcomes.
- General supervision of Senior Years students who have study lessons
- Encourage, monitor and maintain student engagement with schoolwork
- Conduct academic coaching conversations with students to assist with planning weekly homework and study schedules to maximise student potential
- Assist students with progression through schoolwork facilitated by external learning agencies and support student communication to seek any assistance required
- Follow the directives of the subject classroom teacher and/or specialist in caring for and implementing the programs that have been specifically designed for student(s)
- Support the teacher to monitor student progress and behavior when working with students
Selection Criteria:
- Certificate III in Education Support or equivalent
- Demonstrated ability to work with children with diverse learning needs
- Demonstrated personal and interpersonal skills that enhance positive relationships with all members of the community especially teaching staff and students
- A strong understanding of the developmental needs of adolescents and emerging young adults
- Proficient in the use of ICT in the classrooms
- Experience and understanding of the Queensland assessment and moderation procedures
- Excellent interpersonal skills, friendly and professional disposition
