About the positionThe School of Allied Health, Human Services & Sport (SAHHSS) is a leading provider of training for a range of allied health professional disciplines in Victoria. An integral part of the practical learning in the disciplines of Speech Pathology, Podiatry, Prosthetics & Orthotics, Audiology and Orthoptics involves student-led internal clinics delivered largely on the Bundoora campus of La Trobe University in dedicated facilities. The primary function of the school clinics is to provide a supported environment for students to progressively develop clinical competencies, for which there is not the capacity in external health and community organisations to support. Additionally, the School clinics provide a service to the community (including some outreach to locations such as schools and other community organisations) and are an active base for clinical research.Reporting to the Discipline Lead, the Orthoptics Clinic Co-Ordinator manages the day-to-day operations and teaching activities of the School's Orthoptics Clinic, serving the needs of the discipline, and works with colleagues across the school.Skills and ExperienceTo be considered for this position, you will have:
  • Masters, PhD degree or equivalent accreditation and standing recognised by the University/profession as appropriate for the relevant discipline areas.
  • Extensive experience in clinical education in Orthoptics, and how clinical education interrelates and scaffolds with theory-based curricula.
  • Demonstrated understanding of health systems in Victoria, and how School Clinics can contribute to broader health and wellbeing in the community.
  • Evidence of innovative initiatives undertaken in the last three years that have improved the student experience, and the evaluation of effectiveness of these initiatives.
