The opportunity

We're looking for a well-organised and detail-oriented Legal Assistant to join our Sydney team at Wotton + Kearney. You'll provide essential support to our Partners and lawyers, ensuring the smooth running of the Partners litigious practice.

What you'll do

  • Checking for conflicts of interest and setting up new matters in our case management system.
  • Preparing client acknowledgements and appearances. 
  • Maintaining and updating client contact information in our Client Relationship Management (CRM) system.
  • Tracking deadlines for tasks and keeping everyone informed.
  • Assisting with internal and external events, travel arrangements, and presentations as needed.
  • Drafting basic legal documents like appearances, letters, and requests for information.
  • Filing and serving documents electronically or in person, following court procedures.
  • Assisting with more complex legal documents by working with lawyers and experts.
  • Providing typing, transcription, editing, and formatting assistance for various legal documents.
  • Helping lawyers manage their diaries, arrange meetings, and gather materials for upcoming events.
  • Managing lawyers' inboxes and drafting of correspondence.
  • Helping to manage trust queries and collaborating with the accounts team.
  • Working with lawyers and the finance team to ensure timely and accurate billing for clients. (centralised billing by our finance team internally)
What you bring:
  • At least 2 years of experience as a Legal Assistant or similar role within a litigious practice group (essential)
  • Excellent organisation and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Legal software experience a plus.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • A problem-solving attitude and a keen eye for detail.
