About the branch
The Inquiries, Prosecutions and Administrative Law Branch comprises a number of legal teams that provide specialist legal services and advice to the State in relation to; regulation, administrative law and disciplinary reviews, Inquiries and Royal Commissions.
The Inquiries teams provide specialist legal services and legal advice in relation to Inquiries and Royal Commissions including:
- Establishment of Royal Commissions (exclusive services)
- Management of notices to produce including document review
- Witness and hearing preparation
- Briefing and instructing counsel
- State submissions and strategic responses
- Project management and reporting
- Merits review of administrative decisions and related court proceedings
- Investigations and criminal procedure
- Business and occupational licensing
- Conduct reviews, professional disciplinary proceedings and summary prosecutions
- Freedom of information, information sharing and privacy
- Integrity body inquiries
We have an exciting opportunity for a dedicated Legal Assistant to join our Inquiries, Prosecutions and Administrative Law Branch and provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to a team of solicitors. Day to day responsibilities include:
- Preparing correspondence and relevant documents – drafting and typing (dictaphone)
- Liaising with clients, witnesses and barristers
- Amending & formatting documents
- File management – maintaining orderly, up to date legal files in electronic and hard copy format
- Diary and email management – monitoring emails, calendars and recording deadlines
- Telephone assistance – both incoming and screening
- General administration – photocopying, couriers, billing, relieving reception
- Demonstrated experience providing legal administrative support
- Confident in providing high quality and responsiveness legal administrative assistance to more than one solicitor
- Strong understanding of court systems and procedures, including knowledge of legal terminology and an ability to conduct research using online databases and systems
- Self-starter who takes initiative and has the ability to operate autonomously
- Excellent attention to detail with a commitment to service excellence
