What is the role?
As the Legal Counsel, you will be responsible for providing accurate and comprehensive legal support, ensuring the smooth execution of leasing and franchising transactions. You will be a key advisor on corporate legal processes, compliance issues and intellectual property matters, contributing to the overall success of our business.
The key responsibilities include:
- Execute leasing and franchising transactions, including negotiating amendments with internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide expert advice on corporate legal processes, compliance issues, transactions, agreements, and intellectual property.
- Interpret and advise on the Franchising Code, legislation and regulations.
- Draft and prepare legal documents such as applications, breach notices and formal correspondence.
- Represent MDKL in legal proceedings, including disputes and defending claims.
- Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with internal stakeholders, particularly within the Property and Operations teams.
- Collaborate effectively as a member of the Legal Team, mentoring paralegals and contributing to team success.
- Assist in the development and delivery of group presentations, training and development programs.
- Stay current with legislation to provide proactive legal advice.
Who are we looking for?
You are someone who is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and has excellent communication and interpersonal skills. As well as having a self-starter attitude, you will possess:
- 3-5 years as a lawyer with expertise in property (leasing), commercial (franchising) and dispute resolution.
- Tertiary qualified in a Bachelor of Laws.
- Current Queensland Law Society practising certificate or equivalent.
- Strong corporate and commercial background with the adaptability to new areas of practice.
- A problem-solver with excellent negotiation and relationship management skills.
