AKG has the newly created opportunity for a Legal Counsel based in our conveniently located CBD Sydney office with flexible working arrangements available. In this role you will be providing support to all businesses within AKG and reporting to our Head of Legal, Risk and Company Secretary.
The successful candidate will have completed a tertiary degree in law, hold a current Australian practising certificate and have 2+ years’ experience in either private practice or an in-house legal role. Experience in commercial leasing is desirable for this position.
This is a generalist role, providing the opportunity to advise on a wide range of legal issues affecting AKG’s Australian and international businesses. You will advise on general commercial advisory and transactional work, including contract drafting and review, commercial leasing, employment law, acquisitions, privacy, regulatory compliance (including in the NDIS space), company secretary support and IP management.
You will have the ability to analyse contractual and regulatory material, communicate the implications in clear and straightforward language, and recommend appropriate courses of action.
What you will be doing:
- Directly supporting the Head of Legal to advise the Australian and international businesses on a broad range of areas of commercial and corporate law including contract law, compliance requirements, privacy, workplace relations, governance and IP matters.
- Advising on, and taking responsibility for, a number of legal-related areas including company secretary, governance, risk, commercial leasing and insurance.
- Facilitating corporate governance processes and ensuring the smooth operation of AKG’s boards, including attending board and committee meetings, preparing minutes of meetings, resolutions and attending to ASIC filings.
- Overseeing external legal service providers in the UK, Sweden, Canada, Italy and Singapore.
- Working closely with our high performing internal deals team to achieve ambitious international acquisitions.
- Supporting ongoing key projects such as the Reconciliation Action Plan, climate change compliance and modern slavery compliance.
- Working within a supportive and engaging team with a welcoming company culture.
