Come be a part of this journey!BAT Australia is looking for a Legal Counsel to join their teamAn exceptional opportunity awaits for two seasoned Legal Counsel ready to make a significant impact in the dynamic and culturally diverse South Pacific markets. Based in Sydney and operating within the Australasia Legal Team, these newly created roles offer a chance to contribute substantially to the strategic development and legal management of our operations across Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Samoa, Solomon Islands, and key export markets.Key Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive Legal Counsel spanning commercial strategy, governance, risk management, sustainability, and regulatory compliance including modern slavery, anti-bribery and corruption, data privacy, competition, and supply chain compliance.
- Act as a trusted advisor on a broad spectrum of legal matters including marketing initiatives, procurement contracts, trading terms, HR matters, ESG initiatives, company secretarial responsibilities, new product developments, and beyond.
- Develop and implement legal frameworks and procedures to ensure rigorous compliance and uphold our commitment to integrity.
- Lead initiatives to instill a culture of "Delivery with Integrity" throughout the organisation, including the development of governance and compliance training programs.
- Spearhead HR investigations when required, and take charge of internal and external investigations, ensuring alignment with BAT's stringent standards.
- Foster a professional and supportive culture within the Legal Team and across the broader business landscape.
- Cultivate strong partnerships with leadership teams in each market and with external Legal Counsel to ensure best-in-class legal support for South Pacific operations.
- Possess a legal degree with all relevant professional qualifications.
- Demonstrated post-qualification experience of 3-6 years, preferably acquired in-house or within a reputable private practice. Experience in the FMCG industry or highly regulated industries is advantageous.
- Admitted in Australia or New Zealand preferred. We will consider applications from other Common Law jurisdictions.
- Exceptional ability to thrive under pressure, managing multifaceted issues across diverse markets.
- Outstanding communication and analytical skills, coupled with the ability to establish credibility and rapport with stakeholders at all levels.
- Resilience and a solutions-oriented mindset when navigating complex challenges.
- Strategic acumen and the ability to distill intricate situations into actionable insights.
- Proficient decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong interpersonal skills and unwavering personal integrity.
