The Role
453SQN is part of the Defence Air Traffic Control (ATC) organisation. As a technical practitioner within 453SQN, you will perform moderately complex tasks, be responsible for the supervision of technical staff employed on the Australian Defence Air Traffic System (ADATS) Automation equipment and airfield support systems. This position requires the candidate to obtain Trade Supervisor and/or Maintenance Assurance Inspector status in one or more of the following environments - ADATS Automation, navigational aids (TACAN) or Australian Military Airspace Control Communication System (AMACCS).
Undertake shift work and/or weekend work if required.
Applicants deemed suitable with exceptional skills, experience or expertise may be eligible for an Individual Flexibility Arrangement (IFA) in accordance with the IFA provisions of the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement 2024. This may include additional remuneration and/or the variation of other conditions. In these cases, total remuneration will comprise of base salary + IFA additional remuneration + Superannuation.
About our Team
453 Squadron Maintenance Team in Richmond (NSW) delivers critical support to Air Traffic Control (ATC) operations by maintaining and managing the Aviation Support System (AvSS). These systems include the remote Airservices Australia radar feeds, radios, navigation aids and communication network system in support of Defence and Civilian ATC systems.
The team is comprised of 12 members. This position (Maintenance Manager) works for the Maintenance Coordinator (Flight Sergeant) as part of a small mixed RAAF and APS team. The team is motivated and self-disciplined, creating an environment for continuous improvement, personal development and career progression.
Our Ideal Candidate
Under limited guidance, perform the following duties:
- Organise, supervise and assist subordinate technical personnel in the moderately complex maintenance, modification and installation/removal of ground telecommunications equipment,
- Undertake moderately complex technical planning tasks and activities as shift supervisor,
- Ensure staff compliance with applicable technical documentation during technical duties
- Ensure that operations within the section are performed according to WHS standards,
- Perform the duty of a Trade Supervisor and/or Maintenance Assurance Inspector as required within the structure of the section, in accordance with prescribed standards,
- Liaise with external organisations, on base contractors and a number of other RAAF agencies on moderately complex technical matters and prepare associated reports,
- Undertake moderately complex quality assurance tasks or activities, and
- Perform other relevant duties as directed
