The Role:

It's an exciting time to be joining Navantia Australia, one of Australia's leading companies in the Maritime Sustainment industry.

Navantia Australia currently has an exciting opportunity for a 12 month fixed-term contract role for a Ship Maintenance Manager to join the team out of its Garden Island, Sydney office. The Ship Maintenance Manager will lead the Ship Maintenance activities and processes to ensure that the AOR Ship external maintenance is executed in accordance with the contract including safety & the environment, cost, schedule, technical, risk and quality requirements. You will manage a small project team responsible for the overall delivery of maintenance services for the designated AOR Vessel. You will establish a collaborative working environment with all stakeholders including the Maintenance Planning Manager, Ship’s Crew, the Commonwealth SPO representative and the subcontractors, to facilitate best practice in the efficient and cost effective delivery of a

maintenance services support capability.

In this role, you will:

  • Support the Maintenance Planning Manager and the Maintenance Manager in delivery of maintenance management services to the AOR Platforms.
  • Lead and manage the complete project cycle for maintenance services (upkeep, update, upgrade) from initiation of the planning through to closure and invoicing of the project.
  • Work closely with Enterprise stakeholders leading a core team that maintain the AOR ships whilst working within the Asset Management and Seaworthiness frameworks.
  • Ensure the correct systems and processes are established and followed including reporting requirements (internally and externally) and delivery of the mandatory formal reporting requirements to the customer and related stakeholders.
  • Ensure the Navy Stage Gate process is established, monitored and reported on so the health of the project is understood.
  • Ensure the maintenance documentation and technical data used for maintenance activities is prepared, reviewed and any issues highlighted to Engineering for clarification and/or rectification.
  • Manage and coordinate the subcontracting of the work package including the selection the preferred subcontractors that offer the best solutions including value for money.
  • Establish and maintain the project budget including the tracking of any changes.
  • Ensure the OQE provided by subcontractors is reviewed and accepted prior to closing the maintenance activities in AMPS.
  • Manage and conduct maintenance investigations and support the Engineering and the Configuration Control within an AOR Management.
  • Utilising the Defence Systems (CMT-U & AMPS), maintain maintenance history, reporting, recording modification status, status of TM200s, URDEFS and close out of tasks.
  • Ensure in-service maintenance information and data required for effective management of the Asset Management function (Life Cycle Costs & Trend Analysis) is recorded and reported.
  • Contribute to the objectives of the AOR Enterprise in the maintenance function.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of the systems and processes and ensure lessons learnt are captured and implemented.

As the ideal candidate, you will have:

  • Degree in Engineering or Project Management.
  • Experience in a maintenance or marine environment considered essential.
  • Experience in the Defence sector with knowledge of RAN programs highly desirable.
  • Experience in scheduling and scheduling tools such as MS Project is mandatory.
  • Knowledge of tools used in by the RAN, such as Configuration Management Tool-Unified (CMT-U) and Asset
  • Management and Planning System (AMPS) would be highly regarded.
  • Very strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the business.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, but can also operate autonomously using initiative, sound reasoning, listening and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results in a high-pressure environment
  • Australian Citizenship holding or eligible for an Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) Defence Security Clearance.
