About the role
The ideal candidate for this role will contribute to the maintenance and adaptation of Council’s financial system to align with evolving organisational and legislative needs. Responsibilities include accurately recording transactions within the financial system and leveraging this data to compile comprehensive financial reports for both internal and external purposes. This entails the maintenance of existing reports within the system and collaborating with various departments to provide financial insights and aid in budget management.
The role also involves active participation in the preparation and completion of annual budgets, long-term financial forecasts and budget reviews in compliance with established policies and accounting standards. Additionally, the incumbent will assist in preparing annual financial statements, adhering to audit plans and accounting standards. Furthermore, the position entails supporting the development of business initiatives and reporting requirements, including the preparation of business cases, as well as assisting in the monthly statutory reporting to Council while ensuring adherence to accounting standards.
About the person
To succeed in this role you will possess tertiary qualifications in Business or Accounting, coupled with or working towards a recognised accounting qualification like Chartered Accountants or CPA. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in a similar local government role within a complex environment, proficiency in ERP systems, analytical skills, self-motivation and strong communication abilities.
Additionally, familiarity with relevant finance standards, local government regulations, and Microsoft products is essential, with prior experience in a local government environment and advanced Microsoft skills being desirable.
