The Opportunity

The Environment Protection Authority (EPA) is the state’s primary environmental regulator, working to achieve effective environmental and human health outcomes for the people of NSW.

You will lead a Section that will design and deliver the EPA’s ground-breaking Climate Change Policy and Action Plan. This will include designing policies, strategies and regulations to ensure greenhouse gasses are regulated like other harmful pollutants, facilitating best practice mitigation and adaptation actions, collaborating with experts, governments, industry and business to transition NSW to a net zero economy and resilient to climate risks.

The role will work with a small team to develop and implement policy solutions that ensure environmental protection policies, legislation, and regulatory frameworks are agile to emerging issues, support and build on national and NSW Climate Change framework, remain contemporary and incentivise environmentally sustainable practices in NSW to support NSW meeting its legislated net zero targets.

You will head up a high-performing and passionate team with a proven track record in delivering on the strategic priorities of the EPA and the NSW Government and can build up the team to focus on Climate Change opportunities.

You will lead teams to coordinate and undertake policy development, provide analysis and advice, and support EPA and Government policy initiatives and commitments. You will get to work with other Australian and NSW Government agencies, the community, businesses and industry to drive time-critical strategic and innovative solutions to regulate Climate Change and ensure NSW is on track to meet its net zero targets.

About You

To be successful, you need to be a strategic thinker who is confident with leading dynamic teams under high pressure and competing priorities to deliver cabinet submissions, law reform, policy analysis and problem-solving and working in a high-volume, fast-paced environment. Additionally, this role will see you supervising others and interacting with many stakeholders, so strong engagement and communication skills are essential.

To be successful, you must have leadership experience and the ability to motivate and inspire teams of between 5 – 10 direct reports to innovate, deliver and be agile to evolving priorities and capitalise on opportunities when the arise.

We welcome an individual with a diverse range of experience – both in and outside government – however experience working in Climate Change or similar fields will be favourable.
