About the organisation
East Gippsland Region Water Corporation (EGW) provides water and wastewater services to communities located in the stunning eastern region of Gippsland in Victoria with its pristine beaches, breathtaking rugged alpine landscape and surrounding countryside. It services an area of 21,000 square kilometres, approx. 50,000 people and has nine separate water supply systems and eleven individual wastewater systems. The area covered is equivalent to 10% of the area of the state and stretches from Bairnsdale to Mallacoota on the coast to Omeo and Dinner Plain in the High country. EGW’s operating revenue for 2022/23 was $39.4 million and delivers the full range of retail water services, including water harvesting, storage and drinking water supply. It also provides wastewater collection and treatment services, recycled water for rural and beneficial community uses, as well as trade waste services to industrial and commercial customers. With customer centricity at its forefront, EGW is consistently rated in the top tier for Victorian water corporations as measured by its customers for trust, value for money, reputation and overall satisfaction.
About the role
As a member of the East Gippsland Water Board of Directors, the Managing Director will lead a dedicated workforce focused on the delivery of safe and affordable water services, and will play a key role as a regional leader to ensure EGW is in step with the needs of its customers and stakeholders. As head of the organisation, the Managing Director will focus on delivering EGW’s 2023 – 2028 strategic plan, which sees the organisation embark on exciting change with its biggest-ever capital investment program of $115 million. This significant investment will ensure EGW continues to protect the environment while preparing for climate change and future population growth. The Managing Director plays a key role in the promotion of EGW’s customer-centric ethos, empowering and supporting a dynamic executive team while working cohesively with EGW’s Board. Recognising the importance of keeping an external focus, the successful candidate will oversee and cultivate a diverse range of stakeholder relationships that reinforce EGW as a committed member of the community.
About you
Commercially focused, strategic and outward looking you are an executive who thrives within a growth environment, and is motivated to deliver both long term sustainable and tangible outcomes. Through your experience in utilities, essential services, resources, government or management consulting (or related capital-intensive sectors) you have a deep understanding of how regulated industries work, and how to drive outcomes within such environments. A natural problem solver, you foster innovation while looking to the future. A highly credible executive leader, you present in a visible and caring manner for employees, community and stakeholders, actively pursuing inclusion and diversity while maintaining customer centricity across all business activities. Your breadth of experience includes having worked with traditional owners towards respectful outcomes, with a big picture and long-term approach to sustainable growth. With a strong regional commitment, you relish the opportunity to step into an organisational and community leadership role, where you will reinforce East Gippsland Water’s dedication to the delivery of its 2023 – 2028 strategic plan, guaranteeing viability of operations and delivery of critical infrastructure for future generations.
