About This Opportunity
The Project/Program Manager (locally known as Manager, Research Projects) works closely with Professor Ranjeny Thomas and her research team to identify, develop, implement, and improve outcomes of her research program. The main focus will be a multi-site phase two 2 clinical trial of lifestyle intervention in rheumatoid arthritis from implementation to completion, requiring skills in implementation and assessment of clinical and laboratory site operations, development of protocols and SOPs, data monitoring and management and support of all personnel. The role requires skills in preparing reports, budgets, protocols, ethics submissions and revisions, facilitating stakeholder engagement, monitoring expenditure, preparing, and maintaining recruitment material and managing data.
Key responsibilities will include:
Technical/Scientific: Define technical and clinical requirements, dependences, milestones and sequences for translational Research Projects, particularly multi-centre clinical trials.
Provide specialist clinical trial management expertise to ensure excellent research outputs on time and on budget.
Project Management: Lead planning and development of a multi-site phase 2 clinical trial of lifestyle intervention in rheumatoid arthritis; coordinating internal resources for project implementation, defining project scope and objectives, in line with corresponding stakeholders and technical feasibility.
Provide input to the development of appropriate performance measures relating to clinical trial planning, targets, key performance indicators and/or deliverables, assessing and implementing changes as required.
Effectively lead and manage the project team, including planning and prioritising activities
Financial Management: Manage financial resources and budgetary reporting processes in accordance with the Clinical Trial Research Project Plan
Stakeholder engagement and communication: Coordinate project communication with all stakeholders and trial participants, including developing and implementing communication and engagement content and leading engagement.
Maintain collaborative working relationships with key stakeholders to support effective delivery of the project.
Support project sponsors to engage key stakeholders and build positive momentum for change.
This is a part-time (50%), fixed-term position through to 31 December 2026
At HEW level 8, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $106,838 - $119,780, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $125,000 - $119,780 annually. As this role is covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases – at least once a year.
About You
We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Research Program/Project Manager to manage the successful delivery of a multi-site phase 2 clinical trial of lifestyle intervention in rheumatoid arthritis from implementation to completion, requiring skills in implementation and assessment of clinical and laboratory site operations, development of protocols and SOPs, data monitoring and support of all personnel. The role requires skills in preparing reports, budgets, protocols, ethics submissions and revisions, running and minuting meetings, monitoring expenditure, preparing, and maintaining recruitment material and managing data. The Research Manager/Program Manager will also work closely with Prof Ranjeny Thomas and her research team to identify, develop, implement, and improve outcomes of her research program.
Postgraduate qualifications or progress towards postgraduate qualifications and extensive research management experience (preferably in the clinical, translational or biotechnology research sectors); or an undergraduate degree, extensive research management experience and other relevant education/training.
Demonstrated capacity to develop, manage and coordinate medium to large Research Projects in a multidisciplinary environment.
Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with industry personnel and other stakeholders at a senior level.
Proven ability to manage, lead and develop staff, including technical and/or clinical and clinical administrative staff within a research team environment.
Knowledge and experience in coordinating vendor selection, alignment, and contract negotiations
Exceptional writing and editing skills, with demonstrated ability to understand and present complex content in a clear and concise manner.
Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral), with a proven ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences.
Self-motivated with demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Advanced knowledge of ICH Good Clinical Practice as relevant to clinical trials
Significant experience working in translational and clinical research.
A commitment to upholding the highest standard of research integrity, ethics and workplace health and safety.
