As an independent, not-for-profit organisation, the MCA raises over 80% of its revenue each year through donations and commercial activities to deliver its artistic and engagement programs.
Overview of the position
The MCA is seeking a switched on, pro-active and passionate Marketing Coordinator to join the marketing team to support the commercial activity of the Museum. This role develops and delivers initiatives and campaigns to achieve maximum revenue for the Museum through the MCA Store, venue hire, corporate partnerships, as well as the Philanthropy and Membership programs.
The successful applicant will have a flair for copywriting and storytelling, understand every aspect of social media, have an eye for images, be an excellent multitasker and have a strong knowledge of e-commerce, digital trends and acquisitions. They will also be able to work under pressure, to tight deadlines, autonomously and as part of a team.
The Marketing Coordinator is accountable for developing and delivering the MCA’s Development & Enterprise marketing strategies across multiple platforms including social media, e-communications, SEM and SEO campaigns. The role is also responsible for event coordination, media bookings, briefing designers and list management.
The position reports to the Marketing Manager and works closely with the Head of Communications and Marketing, Marketing Coordinator and Design team. Their role also works closely with representatives of the Development Team, Venues Team and the MCA Store.
Tasks and responsibilities of the position
Philanthropy and Membership Programs
- Develop and implement the annual marketing plan Working with the Marketing Manager and Head of Philanthropy.
- Develop and deliver the MCA’s Annual Appeal, working closely with the Marketing Manager and Head of Philanthropy.
- Develop and deliver marketing campaigns for MCA Next and Members working closely with the Marketing Manager.
- Proof and manage approvals of Members, MCA Next and Ambassador eDMs.
- Brief campaigns through to the MCA Design Studio.
- Support the annual Artists Ball working with the Head of Philanthropy.
MCA Corporate Partnerships
- Deliver corporate partner marketing including corporate membership campaign and activations as required.
- Brief campaigns through the MCA Design Studio.
- Brief and develop of partner collateral.
MCA Venues
- Develop and implement the MCA Venues annual marketing plan, working with the Marketing Manager and MCA Venues staff.
- Manage photography shoots as required.
- Brief campaigns through to the MCA Design Studio.
- Grow subscription mailing lists.
- Oversee social channels of MCA Hospitality offering.
MCA Store
- Develop and implement the annual marketing plan for the MCA Store, with the support of the Marketing Manager and Store Manager, focusing on digital and social media marketing.
- Manage approvals for all Store, Venues and Development materials.
- Copywriting, building and sending eDMs.
- Manage photography shoots as required, working with the Design team on art direction.
- MCA Store event coordination including product launches and shopping days.
- Brief campaign work through to the MCA’s Design Studio.
- Grow subscription mailing lists.
General
- Update Development and Venues pages of the MCA website as required.
- Manage approvals of Development, Venues and Store materials through the team.
- Develop logo blocks that meet requirements for all Development partners.
- Coordinate regular reporting for Development, Venues and Store for Board reports and compliance reporting as required.
- Proof and manage approvals for all invitations to Development, Venues and Store events.
Key selection criteria
Essential criteria
Applicants must be able to demonstrate they have:
- minimum 3 years’ previous experience in a similar marketing role
- excellent written and verbal communications skills including the ability to write and edit effective marketing and social copy
- e commerce experience and a passion for the digital industry coupled with the knowledge of current and trending leading practice
- the ability to multitask and work under pressure, to tight deadlines, autonomously and as part of a team
- the ability to develop and deliver creative digital marketing campaigns with emphasis on social media and proven ability to think outside the box
- experience using social media platforms to increase visitation, deepen engagement and improve consumer brand recognition
- experience sending effective e-communications that deliver brand, revenue, conversion, participation and channel usage goals
- strong relationship management and interpersonal skills including the ability to manage internal and external stakeholders including designers, external agencies, digital media specialists and web developers
- project management experience
- proofreading and editing skills with good attention to detail
- high level administrative skills and good computer skills using word and excel
- an interest in contemporary art and culture.
Desirable criteria
It would be good if applicants have:
- experience of implementing and managing digital advertising and SEO campaigns
- experience of marketing in the cultural or not-for-profit sectors
- relevant tertiary qualifications in Marketing (or related discipline)
- photography and styling experience
- interest in new marketing concepts, technologies and experiential marketing.
Person specification
The Marketing Coordinator is a dynamic person who is highly motivated and enthusiastic about working with a leading brand in contemporary art and visual culture. They work well within a team and have strong interpersonal and communication skills and a natural ability to relate to people at all levels. They are a solutions-oriented individual who can think creatively in order to overcome challenges and achieve goals. They have a strong interest in working on the commercial side of marketing for the MCA.

Terms and conditions of employment
This is a full-time, permanent position reporting to the Marketing Manager.Some work out of normal hours (9am–5.30pm) will be required to cover the MCA’s events and programs with TOIL available.
Salary package includes:
- annual leave: 4 weeks
- personal leave: 10 days
- superannuation: 11% super payments (in accordance with the Superannuation Guarantee (Administration) Act 1992).
