About the program:
AIR6500 is the RAAF's $3 billion program to develop a joint air battle management system that builds on the capabilities offered by Next Generation sensor and command and control systems. AIR6500 will create a fully networked 'system of systems' that synchronises air and missile defence operations in joint and coalition environments, maximising situational awareness and enhancing the speed of decision making across the battlespace.
About you:
To be successful in securing this position, you will have:
- Degree qualifications in a relevant Engineering Discipline (Mechanical or similar)
- Significant experience with developing drafting drawings, with knowledge of Australian and international drafting standards
- Significant Experience using 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) software, with a strong preference for experience with PTC Creo Parametric or Zuken E3 or similar tools
- Substantial experience in concept and detail design of mechanical structures, and electro-mechanical assemblies, with experience developing and managing large CAD assemblies
- Strong attention to detail and good communication skills
- Experience with Product Data Management (PDM) software such as Windchill is highly desirable
- An Australian NV-1 security clearance and ability to access/handle Export Controlled technology, data and information

Your responsibilities will include:
The Mechanical Design Engineer will develop bespoke assemblies, equipment layouts, schematics and other models/drawings.
You will primarily be responsible for:
- Working with the Engineering Manager(s) and Product Leaders to guide and evolve the physical integration design
- Evaluating the maturity of product data provided by suppliers into the integrated data management system
- Performing technical reviews of the Physical Integration Design products and deliverables
- Guide the transition of design data through to production design data (Stage 3)
- Guide the Designer team in the resolution of build problems
- Mentor junior Designers and guide the development and delivery of the:
- Physical Interface Definition Documentation
- Layouts and sketches
- System Schematic Drawings
- Cable Schedules
- Engineering Drawings to support the program in accordance with the contracted CDRL format
