About the role
The WES-Engineering Department is now looking for a dedicated Mechanical Design Engineer with comprehensive technical knowledge covering mechanical machine design coupled with hydraulics, pneumatics and electronics. The ideal candidate can transform an idea into a functional long-lasting product supporting our client’s operational requirements and our own internal requirements. A large part of the roll will be supporting our on-site machining department by designing bespoke machines, jigs and fixture to carry out various in-situ machining tasks on equipment like stackers, reclaimers, ship loaders, gas turbines, water turbines, ships etc. An upcoming project is to design a fully automated heat treatment / hardening machine which will utilize induction heaters, hydraulics, pneumatics, servo motors and a motion control system.
Essential tasks
- Provide inclusive and consultative leadership to the engineering department in accordance with the company’s mission and purpose as directed by the senior management team.
- Design (3D modelling) and strength analysis (FEA) of parts and assemblies using SolidWorks Simulation following good engineering practice and industry standards.
- Coordinate and monitor the relationships of structural, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronic engineering disciplines within the design process.
- Ensure information (drawings and bills of materials) for job projects covering new equipment and refurbishment, are produced in line with customer specifications and approved scope of work.
- Preparation of detailed technical drawings issued for manufacture.
- Ensure products are compliant with engineering and legislative requirements.
- Monitor product improvement, product development, design planning and design records in accordance with scope of work.
- Provide ‘competent person’ sign-off on specific development activities as required (for example, calculations, design plans, compliance certificates).
- Monitor concept development and engineering solutions to meet our clients’ needs and in-house requirements.
- Coordinate and monitor R&D projects for new products and in-house requirements.
- Monitors engineering document control including information collection, issue and filing.
