GEARS Mining is an industry respected provider of high-quality mining equipment and services in hard rock processing plants. Our clients include some of the largest mining companies across 6 continents.
With an ever-increasing order book for new equipment, GEARS Mining is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their growing engineering team for an immediate start. The position will work closely with other professionals such as fitters, machinists, boilermakers, electricians and field service technicians.
In this role, you will manage assigned projects from start-to-finish, including design and documentation of equipment specifications. This coincides with testing proposed solutions for effectiveness, and presenting proposals to managers and clients. You will be expected to participate in a team to ensure that projects are completed on-time and within the allocated budget. At times you will also be required to travel to sites both nationally, and internationally, to oversee implementation.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Interpret and monitor project scope requirements in order to assist in establishing design deliverables that align with specifications and standards
- Assist in the development of design drawings, reports and calculations
- Maintain all required project documentation and implement document control procedures
- Assist control systems engineers with programming and documentation requirements
- Assist estimating team in the development of tenders
- Assist other departments within the business who require engineering input
- Have an advanced understanding of Solidworks or similar CAD packages to draw or design GEARS Mining products
- Be able to work without continuous supervision.
- To design concepts to be used for proposals to assist GEARS Mining obtain new projects
- Complete work in a safe manner following procedures and policies in place in all areas
- Ensure all customer requirements and requests are met in an appropriate and timely manner.
- Provide support and guidance to subcontractors during manufacturing periods
- Represent the company and conduct yourself in a professional manner at all times
- Identify and report on opportunities that may provide an improvement to the mine site shutdown process
- Provide continuous feedback to GEARS Mining in relation to manufacturing and design of our products
- Build positive work relationships whilst contributing to the team and show dedication to assisting other technicians in work and professional development
- Understand the company’s goal and purpose in order to continue to enhance the company’s performance
Qualifications, Experience and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Engineer’s Australia membership as a Professional Engineer (MIEAust)
- 3-5 years’ related work experience
- Demonstrated proficiency in written and verbal communication, including creating and delivering presentations
- Advanced skills in critical software applications, such as Microsoft Office and Solidworks
- Expertise in data, problem analysis, creative problem solving, and design thinking
- Demonstrated understanding of engineering and design principles
- Demonstrated understanding of applicable standards and legislation
- Leadership experience will be highly valued
- Ability to perform under pressure
- Willingness to work as directed
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude
- Permission to work in Australia
- RPEQ qualified or able to obtain will be highly regarded
