About the role  

We are looking for Mechanical Readiness Specialist join our Operational Readiness team at West Angelas. You’ll be will be part of the Operational Readiness team that goes above and beyond to successfully integrate safe and high-performing assets that exceed business expectations, contributing to a safely operable, maintainable, and reliable project result.   

The role will have an emphasis on delivery of all fixed plant assets and will extend beyond your subject matter expertise in Mechanical Engineering; providing support across all aspects of fixed plant; including control systems, functional safety and materials handling.

Contributing to a small Operational Readiness team your responsibilities will also extend to asset readiness and design and implementation of NPI (Non-Process Infrastructure) as required

Reporting to the Superintendent Mining Readiness, you will:   

  • Create value by developing, implementing, and communicating the operational readiness execution plan, focused on fixed plant related aspects including project controls, reporting, risk management, and planning. 
  • Align people by establishing and maintaining relationships with stakeholders who influence and impact both the operational readiness programme and the studies.
  • Achieve results by providing operational advice and support through all project stages.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement through safety in design workshops.
  • Provide engineering guidance for the procurement of new equipment and components.
  • Facilitate the sustainable delivery of new assets into operation.

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience in mechanical, maintenance, or reliability engineering in mining or industrial environment will be highly regarded.
  • A current and valid C Class manual driver’s licence.
  • Well-developed people influencing, engagement and communication skills.
  • Mature approach to issues and strong decision-making skills.
  • Capability to write conclusive reports and create documents presenting requirements and developed plans, strategies, and approaches.
  • Proven ability in safety leadership in the mining or relevant industry.

Where you’ll be working  

Located 110km west of Newman, West Angelas operates on a fly in fly out roster from Perth

West Angelas is a pioneer in autonomous technologies – we were the first site to trial autonomous haul trucks and incorporate autonomous drilling into our operations in 2008, and we continue to have one of the largest mining fleets in the Pilbara.

Our high grade, low phosphorous Marra Mamba orebody is an integral part of the Pilbara Blend, contributing both lump and fines products on around four trains each day. At the West Angelas hub there are state-of-the-art power generation and refueling facilities. These facilities supply power and diesel fuel to the East Pilbara mine sites.

The future is bright at West Angelas with ongoing growth projects at Deposits C and D, as well as additional deposits under study providing enormous opportunities for personal development and career growth.
