Fortescue Hydrogen Systems are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer with experience in scope definition, detail design and commissioning activities of mechanical systems. Suitable applicant shall have previous experience delivering mechanical system design from concept through to implementation phase. In this role you will provide technical input to the design and operation of our green hydrogen business working in the Engineering Readiness team.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implementation of mechanical engineering systems for the electrolyser and balance of plant across green hydrogen projects.
- Develop detailed design specifications, accurate 3D models and engineering drawings for the hydrogen systems.
- Identify and specify appropriate materials, components, and suppliers required for the construction of hydrogen systems, considering cost, quality, and availability.
- Perform thorough engineering calculations, simulations, and analysis to validate design integrity, structural integrity, and performance characteristics.
- Identify best practices related to the practical application of hydrogen mechanical systems and drive its adoption.
- Work closely with operations teams to ensure seamless integration of the design intent into the production processes, addressing any design-related challenges that may arise.
- Collaborate closely with other engineering disciplines to refine and enhance the mechanical design of the hydrogen production systems.
- Collaborate with suppliers and other OEM to develop and optimize fabrication processes, ensuring efficient production and adherence to quality standards.
- Review of and input to P&ID's, isometrics, 3D models, plant functional specification, etc.
- Work with other team members to establish project scopes of work, schedules, checklists, and reporting mechanisms to meet the project needs.
- Troubleshooting and optimisation of new and existing mechanical design issues.
- Day to day review, revise and updating of engineering documents.
- Ensure Australian Standard installation compliance in all site works undertaken.
- Commitment to zero harm by following HSSE procedures, protocols, and initiatives.
- Tertiary engineering qualifications (Mechanical Engineering).
- Minimum 10+ years of detailed mechanical design experience.
- Chartered Professional Engineer with Engineers Australia & RPEQ strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience using 3D design software for creating designs and preparation of fabrication drawings.
- Prior experience in the mechanical design of components in the energy, infrastructure and resources industry.
- Demonstrated troubleshooting and optimisation experience in the practical application of mechanical system will be advantageous.
- Knowledge of standards and regulations associated with mechanical design.
- An ability to listen and identify key issues and to articulate complex information clearly.
- Excellent communication skills to initiate and develop relationships with a broad range of people.
- Demonstrated ability to work with limited supervision to set up processes and monitor own work achievements against agreed objectives.
