Position Tagline
St George Hospital Cancer Care Centre is seeking a dynamic and high calibre medical physicist to join our enthusiastic and experienced Medical Physics team. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work with three Varian Truebeam linear accelerators, ARIA oncology information system, two dedicated Philips Brilliance Big Bore CT scanners, Eclipse and Oncentra treatment planning systems and a Flexitron HDR brachytherapy afterloader. St George Hospital offers a wide range of treatment techniques including SRS, SBRT, DIBH and VMAT, and has the only publicly funded LDR prostate brachytherapy program in NSW.
Where you'll be working
St George Hospital Cancer Care Centre is a comprehensive cancer treatment facility just 14km from the Sydney CBD. This position is a permanent full-time appointment. St George HospitalMedical Physics staff work a nine-day, 76-hour fortnight and the job may include working outside normal office hours. The salary will be in line with the Public Hospital Medical Physicists (State) Award and Senior Medical Physics Specialists are eligible to apply for this position. Salary packaging options are also available and there is scope to consider flexible work practices in this role.
What you'll be doing

The role is to assist with the provision and safe clinical use of radiotherapy equipment. You will work with multidisciplinary teams to provide high quality clinical services and help maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff It will be based within the radiation oncology Medical Physics team, with significant focus in the brachytherapy specialty.
Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing.
All workers and new recruits are required to receive 2 doses of a Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccine to commence employment/ engagement or continue to work within a NSW Health service.
A worker and new recruit will be considered compliant if they have a medical contraindication to all available Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccines and provide medical contraindication evidence in line with the policy requirements.
In addition, all Category A workers and new recruits are required to receive one dose of the seasonal influenza vaccine annually to be considered compliant.
Category A workers and new recruits who are non-compliant with seasonal influenza vaccination or have a medical contraindication to influenza or COVID-19 vaccinations must comply with all other infection control risk reduction strategies as directed while working in a Category A position.

  • Australasian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine (ACPSEM) certification in Radiation Oncology Medical Physics or Radiotherapy Equipment Commissioning and Quality Assurance or eligible for registration by the ACPSEM or have completed the TEAP written exam and expect to be certified within 6 months.
  • Demonstrated interest and experience in brachytherapy.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated high quality scientific work and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work as an effective member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Willingness to routinely work outside of normal office hours.
  • Eligibility to hold a NSW EPA Radiation User License (IA29 and S29), or IA29S/S29S with certification expected within the next 6 months.
