Established in 1934, the Motor Trade Association of Western Australia (MTA WA) has spent decades as a passionate advocate for the motor industry, assisting members in running and growing their business. MTA WA is a member-based organisation and is the peak industry group for the Western Australian motor industry representing over 1,500 businesses.
The Automotive Institute of Technology (AIT), our training and employment arm currently employs more than 300 apprentices and focuses solely on the automotive and allied trades.
About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced business professional to join our team in the newly established role of Membership Service Manager.
Reporting to the General Manager of Membership and Industry Engagement, the primary focus of this position will be to support and actively involve our members by delivering business advisory services, leading member committees and workgroups, and organising diverse events and networking opportunities.
This position is primarily based at our Balcatta head office, with direct engagement with members at their businesses.
Standard business hours are generally expected, although flexibility is required at times due to various after-hours events and some regional travel. A nine-day fortnight will be offered to the successful applicant, along with a company car.
Key Responsibilities:
Business Advisory Service
- Respond to member enquiries and concerns relating to industry policies, business practices and commercial disputes.
- Provide guidance to enable members to resolve disputes with consumers, suppliers, Government departments or other business partners.
- Assist members in understanding and adhering to relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
- Develop knowledge-based articles, templates, and guides.
- Maintain accurate records of member interactions, enquiries, and support provided.
- Stay updated on industry trends, legal developments, and market trends.
Membership Acquisition and Retention
- Visit members and promote the benefits of membership.
- Drive membership interest in regional WA and acquire new members.
- Contribute to and execute retention strategies.
Member Committees and Policy Working Groups
- Organise committee and policy working group meetings.
- Facilitate productive and inclusive meetings, encouraging participation and managing discussion.
- Promote effective communication and collaboration among members and stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate records of activities, decisions, and action items.
- Gather information to identify policy initiatives and inform the development of policy and advocacy activities.
Member Events
- Plan and execute a variety of member-focused events such as seminars, workshops, conferences, webinars, and social gatherings working with the Marketing and Events team.
- Represent MTA WA at industry events, conferences, seminars, and forums to enhance visibility, promote collaboration, and identify opportunities for industry growth.
Corporate Partnerships
- Identify and research potential corporate partners and sponsors.
- Execute strategic plans for cultivating and acquiring corporate partnerships.
- Cultivate and nurture relationships with corporate partners.
- Monitor and evaluate the success of each partnership through member feedback.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will possess the following:
Licences and Qualifications
- Current WA Driver’s Licence
- Bachelor's degree in business, marketing or related field, or a trade qualification with business experience, or proven experience in a similar role.
Skills, Experience and Capabilities
- Previous experience in business management, membership management, customer service, marketing, or a related field.
- Excellent interpersonal, networking and communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships both internally and externally.
- Curiosity to gain in-depth knowledge of the organisation’s mission, vision, values, initiatives, and services.
- Experience in analysing and interpreting information to provide clear and concise advice.
- Ability to resolve member issues and provide solutions promptly.
- Bringing creative and innovative ideas to enhance member engagement.
- Ability to lead initiatives and inspire members to participate actively.
- Demonstrated organisation and time management skills, including the ability to prioritise tasks, multi-task and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience organising events, webinars, workshops, or conferences in conjunction with support teams.
- Intermediate information technology skills, familiarity with membership or customer management software and Microsoft Office applications.
Technical knowledge or a trade qualification in the automotive sector will be highly regarded.
