Role description:
We are looking for a Mining Analyst / Technical Advisor with a mining and analytical background to join our growing team based in Sydney, Australia. You will assist our growth objectives by providing oversight to existing operations, analyse the financial and physical performance of our assets, and provide insights to new business opportunities and other strategic initiatives. You will also;
- Assist in the management of our existing operations in meeting production targets and achieving their KPIs, including operational reviews, budgets and budget forecasting, and performance improvement initiatives
- Undertake review and analysis of confidential information to screen and identify high priority investment opportunities
- Support the execution of transactions during the stages of due diligence, negotiation, and deal structuring
- Develop work scopes and requests for proposals, co-ordinate and manage multi-disciplinary teams of Technical Advisors during the due diligence process
- Ensure that technically sound inputs are provided to analysts for the development of robust valuation models and that material technical risks are understood
- Draft and deliver reports and presentations to steering committees, investment managers and board members, concisely reporting on material technical matters and their financial implications
- Support business development efforts and pipelines of M&A opportunities, fostering relationships with representatives from the mining sector, investment banking and other funds or institutions
- Provide analytics and market-based research to help investment managers and key decision makers make informed decisions
- Conduct research across various markets, commodities and jurisdictions to support the M&A function and develop internal databases
- Assist the company in the development of technical capability and systems and procedures to enhance and standardise our approach to investment analysis
- Provide management support to Country Manager - Australia in functional projects as required
What you will bring to the role:
- As a key Technical Advisor, you will have relevant experience and knowledge in the resources sector (mining, oil and gas or power generation) that will help bridge the gap between technical and financial analysis
- Your strengths will come from relevant industry experience in the resources or energy sectors (at least 5 years of experience)
- With confidence evaluating and reporting on key financial metrics, your financial literacy has been developed through post-graduate studies and real-life experience
- Broad experience across multiple commodities or sectors means that you are confident in identifying and screening different types of investment opportunities
- Strong reputation and industry experience will allow you to reach out to a strong network of industry contacts and consulting professionals
- You have the confidence and management skills to manage multi-disciplinary teams in undertaking technical due diligence
- With the ability to work autonomously, you are also a team player with a responsible and proactive approach and solid communication skills
- You have a wide knowledge and keen interest in the resources sector, bringing prior knowledge of markets, commodities, mining companies and their assets
- You can work with teams in different technical disciplines and time-zones and can promote a respectful and safe working environment
Minimum requirements:
The position requires:
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field such as Mining Engineering, Geosciences, Engineering or Power Engineering. Other relevant post graduate studies in Finance, Business or Management would be highly regarded.
- Minimum five years of relevant experience gained from working in the resources or energy sectors. Additional experience in corporate finance, investment banking, top tier boutique advisory / consulting firm, or accounting firm in a relevant team (M&A, transaction diligence, or valuations / modelling).
- Strong analytical and presentation skills, with knowledge of analytical platforms in addition to proficiency in Microsoft applications.
- Strong business acumen with ability to understand and identify key business value drivers.
- Fluent English proficiency both in communications and reporting functions. Multi-lingual is beneficial.
- Demonstrated ability to use a broad range of business planning and analytical techniques, to formulate effective and practical strategic business plans.
- Interest and basic understanding of mining and electricity generation industries.
