National Quality & Technical Manager

Steel Mains has a long history of product development and support for the Water Industry, including the development of unique and patented products supported by world class manufacturing, comprehensive Standards accreditation including a NATA accredited test facility.

We are looking for an experienced Quality & Technical Manager based in Somerton, VIC. As part of the leadership team, reporting to the CEO, this role plays a critical role in maintaining our quality systems, accreditation and on-going product development. 

You will have strong knowledge of current materials technologies, welding technologies, engineering principles, quality standards and experience with steel, plastics, cements and other related materials.  

• Technical expert in material aspects of pipeline products and field application, corrosion resistance of metallic products, environmental exposure, behaviour of materials in applied applications 
• Technical review of customer requirement for major pipeline projects
• Lead, mentor and provide ongoing development to the QA and Technical team.
• Provide technical services and customer support roles as required to Steel Mains stakeholders, and their customers.
• Drive product improvements and new product development.
• Responsible for ensuring the maintenance of ISO9001 accreditation business wide & NATA certification for the Technical Laboratory. 
• Responsible for ensuring maintenance of product certification to AS1579, and other Product Standards as needed.
• Assess material risks and apply appropriate Quality Assurance measures.
• Informally monitor production operations and other aspects of the quality system. This includes assisting the site personnel to conform to contract and system requirements.
• Keeping up to date with changing statutory and corporate requirements and adjusting quality systems and procedures as required.

• Minimum 10 years of experience in a similar role overseeing quality and technical function in the water industry. 
• Degree in Material Engineering / Science
• Experience in material specification, performance assessment or application of material within the water or related industry
• Experience in dealing with interpretation, application and development of product standards.
• Experience leading a team of quality and technical engineers 
• Strong attention to detail and well-developed problem solving/investigative/report writing skills
• Results orientated with strong communication skills and with the ability to build relationships and influence others 

This role requires occasional travel to our Kwinana WA facility, key suppliers and customer inspections.
