About the role
We are seeking an experienced and professional Network Systems Engineer. This role will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining complex computer systems and networks. The incumbent is required to possess an in-depth understanding of software and hardware components and work to optimize system performance, security, and reliability. Experience in managing a global network, from requirements gathering and design to deployment, project management and ongoing maintenance is critical to the role. The main purpose of the role is ensuring that computer systems and networks are efficient, effective, and reliable to support road assessment technology.
Main Duties of the Position:
- Analysing, developing, interpreting and evaluating complex system design and architecture specifications, data models and diagrams in the development, configuration and integration of computer systems
- Researching, analysing, evaluating and monitoring network infrastructure to ensure networks are configured to operate at optimal performance
- Assessing and recommending improvements to network operations and integrated hardware, software, communications and operating systems
- Providing specialist skills in supporting and troubleshooting network problems and emergencies
- Installing, configuring, testing, maintaining and administering new and upgraded networks, software database applications, servers and workstations
- Providing network programming in support of specific business needs and requirements
- Preparing and maintaining procedures and documentation for network inventory, and recording diagnosis and resolution of network faults, enhancements and modifications to networks, and maintenance instructions
- Monitoring network traffic, and activity, capacity and usage to ensure continued integrity and optimal network performance
- Management of global network and virtualised environments (VMware Server/Nutanix/Hyper V), both hardware and software, ensuring systems are running efficiently and securely, specific to roads engineering
- Ensuring data security, backup and storage management
- Provide expert assistance and troubleshooting for network emergencies and resolving issues, providing standby and after hours support as required to support offices globally
- Documenting and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures
- SharePoint management and Application support
Skills required:
- Bachelor or postgraduate degree in a related information technology field (eg. computer science, network engineering or computer systems)
- 10 years’ experience in managing and maintaining computer systems and networks, including hardware and software upgrades, patches, and security configurations both on-premises and in the cloud.
- A minimum of five years of experience with AWS, Azure, Linux, Microsoft Server, VAEEM and VMWARE
- Advanced knowledge of the Roads engineering data collection vehicles and their data flows from vehicle to Server.
- Systems analysis, systems evaluation, critical thinking – relating to road infrastructure and advanced data collection technologies
- 10 years’ experience in managing large server infrastructure across multiple global sites.
- A solid understanding of LAN/WAN networking
- Advanced knowledge of Server operating systems specializing in Microsoft services administration
- Scripting Languages like (PowerShell, Linux)
- Application support (ARRBSYS, Toolkit)
