Reporting to the Perioperative Services Manager, the Nurse Unit Manager of Mulgrave Private Day Surgery Centre plays a critical operational leadership role in the facilitation of patient care in our new Day Surgery Centre. The Day Surgery Centre houses two operating theatres, an endoscopy suite, stage 1, 2 and 3 recovery and its own CSSD. The role encompasses supporting the nursing and medical teams to provide exceptional patient care and ensure positive patient outcomes. The Nurse Unit Manager will display experience in human resource management, including labour hours management, agency utilization and absenteeism management. In collaboration with our educators, you will be responsible for supervising the education of our graduate nurses, registered and enrolled nurses.
The success profile and key accountabilities of this position include:
- Providing strong, effective leadership, fostering development and support of the staff in the Day Surgery Centre.
- Collaboration between Day surgery teams in the main hospital as well as Day Surgery Centre.
- Comprehensive understanding of ACORN Standards, professional guidelines and government policy in relation to operating theatres and Day Surgery
- Development of strong collaborative relationships with the Visiting Medical Officers and interdisciplinary team members.
- Enhancement of relationships with other departments within the hospital
Essential Criteria:
- Bachelor’s Degree of Nursing
- Previous consolidated perioperative, or Day Surgery, senior nursing management experience.
- Well refined leadership skills and effective interpersonal communication
- Proven experience in managing KPI datasets including monitoring of activity targets, human resource management (WHPOM), or demonstrated capacity to manage same.
- Core knowledge of ACORN standards and ACHS national standards and implementation and monitoring of quality activities to support these standards.
