Our Journey:
P Block is a 25 bed adult acute Mental Health unit that provides treatment, care and support during an acute phase of mental illness. Consumers remain in the unit until they have recovered to the point where they can be treated effectively and safety in the community. The unit provides a range of therapeutic interventions and programs available to consumers and their families to learn more about the impact of the illness, explore ways to better manage the illness, improve coping strategies and move towards recovery.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and innovative Grade 2 Occupational Therapist to take up a specialist role within the acute Mental Health ward (P Block) at Monash Medical Centre in Clayton. This is a full-time permanent on-going role, working Monday to Friday.
A Day in the Life:
As the Grade 2 Occupational Therapist you will be responsible for providing OT services within P Block. You will work in a small team of OTs, comprising a Grade 3 senior OT and a new graduate OT on a six-month rotation in P Block as part of the Mental Health Program Allied Health graduate initiative.
You will be ensuring patients admitted to P Block have an OT specific functional assessment where indicated as well as ensuring the delivery of a range of evidence based individual and group OT interventions.
You will work within a multidisciplinary team to provide treatment, care and support for patients and their families and carers, and Occupational Therapy specific advice and consultation to clinicians and external stakeholders.

On a daily basis you will:
- Provide clinical practice supervision and mentoring for P Block new graduate OT
- Provide Occupational Therapy input and consultation regarding the assessment, planning and delivery of recovery focused care for patients and families in P Block
- Contribute to the delivery of safe, consumer directed, recovery focused, and evidence-based Mental Health and wellbeing treatment, care and support in P Block
You are an experienced, enthusiastic and innovative Occupational Therapist who enjoys multidisciplinary teamwork. You have knowledge and understanding of the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022, including the principles that underpin the legislation. You also have an understanding of the NDIS and the important role it can play in providing psychosocial disability support for persons living with mental illness. You are also willing to participate in ongoing professional development and support as a member of the Occupational Therapy workforce in the Mental Health program.
What you need:
- Bachelor of Occupational Therapy and or Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy
- Current registration with AHPRA.
- Eligible for registration with the Occupational Therapy Association of Australia
- A valid Drivers Licence is essential
- Relevant Mental health experience
- AMPS credentialed desirable
- Supervision experience desirable
