The Role

The Occupational Therapist (AHP2) utilizes their extensive clinical expertise, encompassing both broad and specialized knowledge, to design, execute, and assess a holistic array of services tailored to meet the unique requirements of individuals, their caregivers, and families. Operating with a degree of autonomy, they may also engage in overseeing the clinical development of junior allied health professionals, assistants, and students. Collaborating within a diverse multi-disciplinary team, which includes professionals and stakeholders from various sectors, the Occupational Therapist employs a blend of preventive measures, early interventions, therapeutic techniques, and assessment methodologies.

Under the direct guidance of a senior clinician, the Occupational Therapist (AHP1) plays a pivotal role in delivering a diverse range of evidence-based, recovery-oriented services within the multi-disciplinary framework of the Local Health Network (LHN) Mental Health service. Their focus is on tailoring interventions to meet the specific needs of both the individual consumer and the broader local community. The Occupational Therapist actively enhances their expertise and proficiency through ongoing professional development and hands-on experience.

In pursuit of these objectives, the Occupational Therapist actively participates in delivering integrated clinical mental health care across various settings, including community, acute, and rehabilitation services. They employ a versatile array of occupational therapy approaches to facilitate holistic therapeutic interventions.

This vacancy is currently a full-time position however consideration will be given to part-time contract availability and hours of work will be by negotiation and salary will be adjusted according to hours worked. 

Eligibility

Must hold a recognised Occupational Therapy qualification and as a regulated profession be eligible for registration as an Occupational Therapist in Australia.

Appointment will be subject to a satisfactory Criminal History Check and appropriate immunisation requirements.

  • National Police Certificate (NPC) for employment involving unsupervised contact with vulnerable groups required for this position (E.g. aged care employment or work involving vulnerable clients)

Immunisation Risk for this position is - Category A (direct contact with blood or body substances)

Community Mental Health Team: Whyalla is the first regional community in South Australia to have both a specialised inpatient mental health facility and mental health rehabilitation service. Previously, these specialised services were only available in metropolitan Adelaide. These facilities will now enable regional consumers to stay closer to home and to their support networks.
