Location Profile

Footscray North Primary School is located in the municipal area of Maribyrnong.  Currently we have 630 students enrolled.  Our vision at Footscray North Primary School is to foster a community of life-long learners. Selection Criteria

SC1 Development and delivery of a comprehensive Occupational Therapist service and a capacity to work across all areas of the school.

SC2 A sound knowledge of occupational therapy techniques and the ability to develop, provide and evaluate services and provide advice on appropriate intervention strategies.

SC3 Demonstrated ability to administer appropriate assessment and provide advice to staff and families on program delivery and follow up.

SC4 Demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively with a range of professionals, teachers and parents on service delivery and student-based issues.

SC5 A commitment to professional learning and growth, including the delivery of professional development to others.

Role

The role requires the applicant to have a qualification in Occupational Therapy and eligibility for Membership of Occupational Therapy Board of Australia.

This role is 2 days a week, however there maybe an opportunity for the role to increase to 0.6 for the successful applicant, to be negotiated and agreed.

Range 4 is distinguished by broader management responsibility, particularly in the areas of finance, human resource and other support functions.  Range 4 is responsible for managing a range of functions under a wide range of conditions, subject to the size and complexity of school operations. 

Objectives will, generally, be clearly defined; guidelines will be broad and day-to-day direction minimal.  Management responsibility extends to ensuring appropriate support levels are maintained across the school.  Range 4 generally provides key support and timely advice to the leadership team and school council and liaises with the general school community, the Department and other government agencies and service providers.

Specialised professional roles will carry a high level of independence and accountability where suitable scope is provided to achieve objectives.

An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor.  Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employees position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.

Responsibilities

The role requires the applicant to have a qualification in Occupational Therapy and eligibility for Membership of Occupational Therapy Board of Australia.

  1. Provide assessment and prepare applications for individual funding for students.
  2. Screen and/or assess students with difficulties.
  3. Complete diagnostic and assessment result reports as per school requirements.
  4. Liaising with other allied health and medical professionals as required.
  5. Provide verbal or written assessment feedback to school staff and parents as appropriate.
  6. Design and deliver inclusive therapy support and intervention in a school environment with implementation supported by teachers, ES staff, and relevant professionals. 
  7. Provide intervention/therapy to both individual students and groups as required.
  8. Complete written progress notes in accordance with school requirements.
  9. Provide informational guidelines and session exercises to school staff and parents as appropriate.
  10. Liaise with teachers and provide advice on modifying learning tasks in order to best meet student needs.
  11. Participate and attend SSG (Student Support Group) meetings as required.
  12. Update and extend knowledge and skills repertoire regularly. 

Other duties as required by the Principal or Assistant Principals.
