Job description

Occupational Therapist - School Support Services

  • Part Time (0.6FTE)
  • Permanent Position
  • Start as soon as possible.

Are you ready for a career where your expertise extends beyond the traditional clinic setting?

Are you passionate about collaborating with schools to create impactful changes for students with Language Disorder?

Look no further! Our School Support Services team at Language Disorder Australia is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable individual who understands Language Disorder and schools. Transdisciplinary practice is not only encouraged but essential.

A Day in the Life:

As a valued member of our Multidisciplinary team, your day will be a blend of consultation, collaboration, and hands-on support. Here's a deeper dive into what makes our consultative approach unique:

  • Travel across QLD: Travel across Queensland, bringing your consultative expertise to schools in rural, regional, and metro areas. The consultative journey is not just about providing services; it's about creating lasting partnerships that empower school teams, raise awareness of Language Disorder and continue to support inclusion for students with Language Disorder.
  • Strategic partnerships: Forge strong partnerships with schools as you embark on consultative journeys. Be the go-to expert, working closely with school staff to understand their learners’ needs and tailor recommendations and strategies that support their learners in the classroom context.
  • Informal Multidisciplinary Assessment: Move beyond the confines of a clinic and immerse yourself in the school environment. Conduct informal multidisciplinary assessments assessing oral language, speech, literacy, numeracy, fine motor, handwriting, gross motor, memory, visual and social emotional skills.
  • Empowerment through collaboration in feedback meetings: Collaborate with school staff and key stakeholders in order to identify the student’s strengths, challenges and support needs
  • Provision of follow-up services: Your role goes beyond assessments and reports. Stay actively engaged with schools through intensive support sessions, report unpacking sessions, and professional development workshops.

Your role as a consultant is not confined to physical spaces but extends into the digital realm. When not travelling around QLD or report writing from home or in our Brisbane (Toowong) office, you will find yourself involved with the following tasks:

  • Creation and presentation of webinars or workshops tailored for teachers that provide further information for students with Language Disorder and their needs across a wide-range of domains (e.g., vocabulary expansion, transitions, emotion regulation, handwriting, reading comprehension, etc.)
  • Creation of a wide range of resources and handouts for use within the classroom context
  • Creation of short videos for our social media channels by partnering with our marketing team

Our team is constantly researching, growing and learning from each other.

This may include:

  • Individual or team supervision
  • Access to external and internal professional development
  • Quality improvement projects
  • Cross-business unit projects

Are You Ready to Redefine Consultative Excellence?

If you are excited about breaking free from the traditional clinic model, stepping into the consultative realm, and being a catalyst for transformative change in education, we invite you to apply!

Join us at Language Disorder Australia, where every day offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact through consultation and collaboration.

Applicants should note that if successful, our positions in the School Support Services team are based on funding considerations, there may be requirement to transition to a clinical setting (Bright Door) after 12 months of employment.

Any Questions?

We love to chat! If you need extra clarification on any of the above points or would like a copy of the Position Description, please don't hesitate to reach out to Emily Watts, HR Officer and email **@languagedisorder.org.au.
