The purpose of the position to establish and develop a consistent approach in all areas of Occupational Health Safety and Wellbeing (OHS&W) in line with Department of Education Victoria OHS&W Management System policies and procedures. (Refer to Education Victoria website).
The successful applicant will be responsible for providing Occupational Health and Safety and Wellbeing (OHS&W) support and management at Wodonga Middle Years College and North East Flexible Learning Centres and Wodonga Senior Secondary College, reporting to the Director of Facilities.
The successful applicant will be based at one of above locations and will be expected to work across all sites.
This position requires attendance during the school vacation periods. A leave purchase allowance is paid for this attendance. Four weeks annual leave is provided. This arrangement can be reviewed in due course.
Major Areas of Responsibility- Manage and advise on all aspects of OHS&W compliance, inspections, audits and assessments.
- Assist staff to complete risk assessments for events and activities.
- Duties as directed by Executive Principal, Campus Principal, Director of Facilities or Business Manager.
- Consult and communicate with the Health and Safety Representative (HSR), line managers and employees on OHS hazards and controls,
- Monitor and review local health, safety and wellbeing performance.
- Monitor DET Policy and Advisory Library (PAL) for new policies or changes and communicate with the Principal, Business Manager, Facilities Director and Policy Manager.
- Provide a workplace which is in a condition that is safe and without risks to health by identifying hazards and developing risk controls, safe work procedures and action plans in consultation with staff.
- Provide advice on departmental staff wellbeing and interpersonal policies.
- Ensure staff OHS training needs are met, in liaison with the Staff Training Manager/Assistant Principals. Monitor LearnEd and other training sites for opportunities.
- Prepare the agenda and coordinate the scheduling of the quarterly OHS Committee meetings.
Other duties of a similar nature and/or level undertaken within the school are not excluded, simply because they are not itemised.
These duties could vary from time to time resulting from new legislation, changes to technology or policy and procedure, and in the context of any changes, appropriate training may be given, if required, to undertake the new/varied role.
Key Selection CriteriaSC 1 Hold a current qualification in OHS&W Management and/or demonstrated experience in a similar role.
SC 2 Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team, driving a safety culture in a complex organisation.
SC 3 Demonstrated experience in OHS auditing, incident management and risk responses.
SC 4 Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
SC 5 Excellent written and computer skills.
SC 6 Demonstrated excellent customer service skills, including the ability to work co-operatively and the capacity to communicate effectively with all members of the school community, including staff, contractors and external providers.
SC 7 Ability to lead and motivate staff, understand and communicate verbal and written instructions clearly.
