Details: This is a leadership position within the Place Management Unit. It is responsible for contributing to the strategic service planning for a region with the Senior Director and Director. The role is also required to lead and manage projects independently and across the unit and supporting the development and welfare of all team members in a region. The role requires a leader who can inspire, energise and positively influence their regional team outcomes, and possesses strong leadership skills to support others in a dynamic and changing work environment.
This position is responsible for
- Leading regional horticultural maintenance, cleaning and technical teams to ensure Canberra’s city places and open spaces are maintained to agreed service levels and working collegiately as part of a management team to contribute to improved operational outcomes.
- Planning for and coordinating effective delivery of horticulture, cleaning and asset maintenance programs; monitoring performance to agreed timelines and budget and identifying servicing issues and effective, sustainable solutions to them.
- Providing detailed reports on the achievement of regional operational programs and servicing levels, sharing knowledge and information cooperatively with others to achieve more consistent servicing results across Canberra.
- Helping identify strategic improvements to the Place Management’s practices to modernize its service delivery and implementing agreed changes.
- Preparing minor and major procurements in line with government processes and managing service delivery contracts relating to the maintenance and cleaning of public open spaces.
- Representing the Branch and liaising with customers, the community and developers on more complex issues relating to Urban Open Space management and asset maintenance, including developing and maintaining a productive working relationship with other government agencies, unions and business/community groups.
- Preparing materials and correspondence including briefs, ministerials and budget submissions and provide detailed comment on development applications, landscape plans and land use permits.
- Promote and monitor compliance with legislative requirements in the workplace, including the TCCS Values, ACT Public Service Respect Equity and Diversity Framework and Code of Conduct, and workplace health and safety procedures and programs.
- This position does involve direct supervision of 3 staff and oversight of the greater operations team.
Eligibility/ Other Requirements:
- To be eligible for permanent employment within the ACT Public Service you must be an Australian citizen or a permanent resident.

- Relevant qualifications (such as Landscape Architecture, Agriculture, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, Horticulture or equivalent) are essential.
- Driver’s licence c class is essential.

Note: An order of merit will be established from this selection process and may be used to fill future identical vacancies over the next 12 months. This position will be moving to a new workplace designed for activity-based working (ABW). Under ABW arrangements, officers will not have a designated workstation/desk.
