Remuneration:
Remuneration value up to $514,452 p.a. comprising salary between $9,360.20 p.f. - $9,924.00 p.f. (L25-L27) or remuneration value up to $470,780 p.a. comprising salary between $7,827.20 p.f. - $9,091.70 p.f. (L18-L24) or remuneration value to up to $340,966 p.a. comprising salary between $6,776.80 p.f - 6,988.70 (L13-L14); employer superannuation contribution (up to 12.75%), annual leave loading (17.5%), attraction and retention incentive allowance, professional development allowance, professional development leave 3.6 weeks p.a., professional indemnity cover, plus overtime and on-call allowances.
The Role:
Mackay is a vibrant regional centre in tropical North Queensland, servicing a population of over 180,000. The Mackay Isaac Whitsunday Region has a thriving economy that includes a diverse range of tourism, agriculture, industry, mining, education and health industries.

Your role

- Follow defined service quality standards, occupational health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
- The provision of a Healthy and Safe environment within Mackay Hospital and Health Service is everyone's responsibility.
- Understand your accountability to uphold the principles and practices of the Health Service's Health and Safety Management System in accordance with legislation and industry standards. As a supervisor actively promote good health and safety practices to staff of your work area.
- Carry out work in accordance with prescribed practices and procedures and in a manner that will not create health and safety hazards for yourself or others in the workplace.
- Manage an allocated workload to deliver high level Specialist orthopaedic clinical services within a multidisciplinary team in accordance with prescribed professional and ethical standards of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons (RACS) and Australian Orthopaedics Association.
- Provide, supervise and be responsible for the provision of clinical duties within the Department of Orthopaedics including inpatient care, pre- and post-operation, outpatient care, community care.
- Uphold competency or proficiency in the nine RACS competency areas.
- Uphold professional development standards including maintenance of College and Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency requirements.
- Promote and participate in outreach to rural facilities in the Whitsunday area (Bowen and Proserpine).
- Participate in the after-hours on-call roster as required.
- Assist other departments in interdepartmental clinical service development.
- Document relevant clinical information legibly, concisely and accurately in the medical records and attend to client related correspondence in a professional manner.
- Manage the administrative requirements of the hospital and patient care including ensuring discharge summaries and medico-legal correspondence is complete with minimal delay.
- Develop and be actively involved in clinical audit, research and the quality assurance programming.
- Follow defined service quality standards, occupational health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken to ensure high quality, safe services.
- Actively participate in the Health Service's Integrated Risk Management and Safety program, including participation in the Incident Monitoring System and Root Cause Analysis where appropriate.
- Provide leave relief as the Clinical Director as required.
- Provide educational programs for medical students in the Orthopaedics Department, including developing a preceptor program for students undergoing their clinical immersions.
- Contribute actively in the education and training of interns and junior medical staff in Orthopaedics/ Surgical disciplines.
- Directly supervise clinical services provided by junior medical staff.
- Identify and contribute to the development of evidence based clinical practice, procedures, protocols and education materials to improve the delivery of clinical services and support the continuum of care and the provision of a multi-disciplinary health service.
- Actively participate in the development, review and implementation of policies and procedures for the provision of Orthopaedic services.
- Develop clinical practice knowledge, skills and expertise through self-directed learning and actively engaging in professional development activities, including acting as a mentor and performance appraisal and development plans.
- Complete the requirements of agreed performance appraisal and development plans including assuming unit-level accountability for one or more portfolio areas.
- Work cooperatively and effectively with patients/clients and within a multidisciplinary team by liaising with other health professionals, support staff, supervisors, students, researchers and external agencies, including use of negotiation and conflict resolution skills where appropriate.
