1. Qualifications as required under the National Quality Framework (Minimum level you will need (or be actively working towards) is a Diploma in OSHC or Children's Services/Youth Work, or a recognised teaching qualification, and demonstrated experience in the Outside School Hours Care field, or working with primary school aged children
2. Knowledge and understanding of the developmental needs of children aged 5-12 years including those children with additional needs and those from other cultures
3. Effective communication and liaison skills including written skills and well-developed organisational skills
4. The capacity to work cooperatively with a range of people including the OSHC Coordinator, OSHC Administrators, classroom teachers, parents/families and children, as well as other OSHC Educators. The successful applicant will have a demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team environment.
5. A commitment to working positively and respectfully with children, and creating a fun, warm and inviting atmosphere
6. A commitment to contributing to the Program Planning processes of our service and an ability to assist in the implementation of a program which reflects the diverse nature of the community and promotes equal opportunity principles.
7. A commitment to the school values and the service's philosophy
8. Working knowledge of the National Quality Framework and Framework for School Aged Care, would be advantageous.
9. Current First Aid certificate, Food Safety and Handling Certificate Anaphylaxis Awareness and Management training, proof of a valid Working With Children Check and consent to a police check, Supervisor Certificate (ACECQA) (or willingness to obtain these)
OSHC Educators are responsible for the following:
- Work within a team of OSHC Educators to supervise and care for children aged 5 -12 years - Including supervision of fun activities for children, and collaboration with other staff to ensure the physical and emotional wellbeing of all children in the care of our service.
- Assisting OSHC Coordinator and Assistant coordinators with program planning and actively contributing to the program planning with reflections and observations for both individual and group of children.
- Food provision - Regular contribution to the preparation and serving of food, and to associated cleaning duties.
- Occasional supervision of children who require special support to engage in activities and social groups, while attending OSHC sessions.
- Attendance of regular staff meetings and contribution to planning processes, and documentation of children's learning and development.
- Assisting OSHC/Coordinator, and other Educators with duties relating to the setup of space, cleaning, stocktaking, etc.
- Assisting OSHC Coordinator to apply First Aid to children, as required.
