Job description

The Stroke Foundation is a national not-for-profit organisation that works with stroke survivors, carers, health professionals, government, and the public to reduce the impact of stroke on the Australian community. Our mission is to Prevent Stroke, Save Lives, Enhance Recovery.

Purpose of the program

The Partnerships team sits within Stroke Foundation's Marketing department. The team plans, cultivates and stewards funding support by corporate Australia and philanthropic trusts and foundations to fulfill income and mission requirements for Stroke Foundation's services, programs, and priority projects. This includes brand-aligned partnerships; event and campaign sponsorships; company, business and workforce donations and fundraising; in-kind contributions; and grants. The team's key objectives are to:

  • Sustain & grow appropriate income.
  • Acquire & embed mission-aligned supporters.
  • Develop support-generating resources and tools.Develop the team's people & operational capacity.

Team structure consists of the National Manager Partnerships and two key team roles: Partnerships Coordinator – Corporate (Corporate Program) and Partnerships Coordinator - Grants (Grants Program).

The Grants Program is focused on generating income for specific services, programs, and projects specifically from accessible grant-making trusts & foundations, including corporate foundations, which run regular open grant rounds and/or have open lines of enquiry.

Purpose of the role 

Reporting to the National Manager Partnerships, this proactive role specialises in the development, execution, and administration of the Grants Program. The role also involves strategic decision-making and collaborates with a range of external stakeholders and Stroke Foundation staff across Marketing, Stroke Services, and Public Affairs and Advocacy in relation to fulfillment of its objectives and may also assist as required in the development of support from trusts & foundations that are not openly accessible.

Key responsibilities

  • Identify, qualify, cultivate, steward, and grow a pipeline of existing, lapsed, and prospective trust & foundation supporters to maintain and increase income.
  • Develop and implement engagement and stewardship plans for existing trust & foundation supporters, and engagement plans for lapsed and prospective supporters.
  • Liaise internally to compile service, program and project information required for creation of proposals and reports and aligned prospect and grant matches.
  • Develop and submit grant applications, funding proposals, acquittal reports, and informal updates for funders.
  • Coordinate administration of Grants Program funding agreements and track fulfilment of deliverables.
  • Coordinate with internal staff developing and executing events, campaigns, publications, and other activities as relevant to the Grants Program and/or its external stakeholders.

Skills 

  • Ability to take a leadership approach to a role whilst at the same time working collaboratively and under direction as a supporting team member.
  • Ability to plan well ahead and effectively manage the challenges of competing demands.
  • Expertise in building qualified, well-aligned prospect pipelines that are of sufficient time- frame and financial value to meet funding targets.
  • Expertise in building effective engagement plans for trust & foundation supporters and prospective supporters.
  • Expertise in and proven aptitude for effective cultivation, stewardship, and maintenance of mutually beneficial trust & foundation supporter relationships.
  • High-level facilitation, technical and organising skills in sourcing, collating and attentively distilling information and evidence from multiple resources and people to fulfill documentation and communication needs for varied audiences and purposes.
  • Expertise in the creation of high-quality proposals for support and ability to discuss their content and subject area (written, verbal, including virtual and in-person meetings).
  • A high administrative procedural competency and efficiency, including the ability to maintain up-to-date and accurate records, data, filing, and reporting systems.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint; low to intermediate Excel, and an intermediate to advanced proficiency in utilising funders' online grants management systems and maintaining data in Salesforce or similar customer relationship management system.
  • Ability for constructive self-assessment and continuous improvement.

Experience

  • Prior solid experience in similar role(s)
  • Previous completion of trainings relevant to development of grant-seeking expertise, trust & foundation relationship management, project management, and relevant computer programs and software technical skills, are each desirable but not essential.
