Job description

The Corporate Services Branch oversees the efficient, effective and ethical management of the National Archives’ resources. This is done in accordance with the Commonwealth’s financial, procurement, employment, security and property legislative and policy frameworks. The Branch supports the workforce, facilities and culture it requires to deliver its strategic priorities and remain sustainable.

The People & Culture section is responsible for developing and implementing policies and strategies to ensure the National Archives' workforce and workplace has the tools and capabilities to achieve our key roles and responsibilities. The section administers employment arrangements under the National Archives Enterprise Agreement and key services including payroll, recruitment and performance management. The section also oversees work health and safety arrangements, workforce planning and the delivery of professional development opportunities and frameworks.

The Payroll Adviser works under limited direction to conduct high quality payroll advice and provide support to managers and other staff. They coordinate and respond to requests and enquiries by employees, handle escalated cases and liaise with our outsourced payroll provider.

Under limited direction the main duties of the role are to:

  • Manage the payroll function, including raising tickets for processing and interrogating data entered into our Payroll System (Aurion) and checking of trial pays.
  • Liaise with the outsourced payroll provider on specific cases or situations and monitor and review the outsourced payroll provider's performance against contract requirements.
  • Interpret and provide advice on legislation that underpins APS terms and conditions of employment and internal guidelines and policies.
  • Maintain accurate details Aurion and on electronic personnel files in our Record Keeping System (TRIM).
  • Apply the principles of APS Values, Code of Conduct, workplace diversity, work health and safety and participative management within a work and team environment.
  • Promote and apply the National Archives’ Vision, Mission and Commitments as expressed in Strategy 2030 and Our Values.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the role you must be an Australian citizen. If you are selected, you will be required to successfully undergo a pre-employment check and be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at a Baseline clearance level.
