Payroll Compliance Officer

- Remuneration: Level 6 $96,960 - $103,434 (depending on experience) + 17% super + leave loading

Why Your Role Matters:
The Payroll Compliance Officer plays a key role in quantifying and rectifying employee pay claims, within a broader compliance program at the University. The Payroll Compliance Officer will support he Payroll Compliance Manager to establish and maintain a robust internal process for pay claims management. The role work closely with key stakeholders, including the finance and claims team, to ensure claims are paid in a timely manner. The role will also entail supporting general compliance activity on an occasional basis.
The Payroll Compliance Officer reports to the Payroll Compliance Manager and has no direct reports.
Responsibilities:
- Administer and utilise reliable models based on established methodology to calculate remediation amounts in relation to substantiated pay claims.
- Maintain an excellent understanding of the obligations under UNSW’s enterprise agreements and legislation.
- Working closely with the Payroll Compliance Manager and other relevant stakeholders to prepare, consult on and maintain an effective process for pay claim processing within the salaries team, including SLAs both in interim-state and future state.
- Ensure that all associated documentation, including required approvals, are in place before payments are made.
- Ensure all claim documentation is produced and stored in accordance with record-keeping obligations under the relevant legislation and regulations.
- Ensure pay claim documentation is maintained and provided to relevant teams for reporting purposes.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all internal stakeholders.
- Perform related duties as assigned within the Program, within your scope of your skills and experience.
Who You Are:
- Relevant experience or a degree, with a subsequent level of knowledge gained through a combination of education, training and/or experience.
- Experience in payroll processes including interpreting industrial instruments (including enterprise agreements and relevant employment legislation) as well as legislation relating to PAYG, superannuation and other payroll regulations.
- High degree of competency in Microsoft Excel including vlookups, pivot tables and if statements.
- Prior experience working with PeopleSoft desirable.
- Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills and proven capacity to exercise initiative, flexibility and to be proactive in development of robust solutions to problems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail for deliverables produced.
- Demonstrated success working effectively and collaboratively on initiatives with a range of people at different levels within an organisation.
- Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
