About the Role:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Payroll Specialist to join our team and oversee our Payroll function, ensuring compliance, efficiency, and accuracy in payroll processing.

As a Payroll Specialist, you will support the Head of Business and the broader school community by managing all payroll functions. Your responsibilities will include processing payroll, handling payroll adjustments, resolving employee payroll queries, and ensuring compliance with payroll regulations. You will also lead the implementation of a new payroll system, working closely with key stakeholders to ensure seamless integration with our HR and Finance systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  •    Ensure timely, efficient, and accurate processing of College payrolls.
  • Handle staff changes, new staff setups, and salary adjustments.
  • Maintain and track annual leave, long service leave, paternity leave, and other staff entitlements.
  • Process resignations, retirements, and redundancies in accordance with relevant awards and entitlements.
  • Provide accurate and confidential advice to staff regarding payroll enquiries.
  • Conduct regular audits of payroll records to identify and correct discrepancies.
  • Process workers' compensation claims and reconciliations.
  • Manage End of Month (EOM) and End of Year (EOY) payroll functions, including taxation lodgement requirements.
  • Prepare annual audit requirements.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain payroll policies, procedures, and frameworks.
  • Assist in developing and implementing processes for staff data management.
  • Produce ad hoc reports and staff summaries using MS Query and TASS.
  • Manage and report wage annualisation calculations.
  • Maintain accurate and current physical staff records.
  • Stay updated with statutory payroll functional requirements through regular training.
  • Plan and execute the migration of payroll data to the new system, ensuring data accuracy and completeness.
  • Document all aspects of payroll processing, including configuration settings and user manuals.

What you will bring:

  • Qualifications in Accounting or extensive experience in a similar role
  • Demonstrated experience in various HRIS/Payroll systems, including cloud-based systems, with implementation experience being an advantage.
  • Ability to interpret Enterprise Agreements and Modern Awards.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive, professional manner.
  •   High level of confidentiality and discretion.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with advanced word-processing and Excel skills.
  •   Experience with HRMS, TASS, SAGE, ConnX HRMS, and People Key beneficial but not essential.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a strong customer focus.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to conduct detailed research.
  • Willingness to be flexible and embrace change.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Professional presentation and a courteous manner.
  • Flexibility in working hours as required.
