The Caboolture Veterans’ and Families’ Hub is our brand-new site dedicated to welcoming Australian Defence Force Veterans and their families. The Hub provides integrated support to current and ex-service personnel and Families.


This is achieved by offering a multiservice suite for Veterans, which may include health and mental health services, well-being support, RSL-based advocacy, employment and housing advice, social connection, and access to counselling and support.


The hub is operated by Lives Lived Well, a not-for-profit organisation providing support for people in Queensland, New South Wales and South Australia with concerns related to alcohol and other drugs, mental health, transitioning from corrective services, veterans’ wellbeing, and gambling.


Your Opportunity

In this position you will provide peer-to-Peer Support and mentorship for veterans and Families.


Your role-modelling and relatability provides veterans and Families with hope and optimism about their own circumstances and recovery journey, and valuable tools to help them on their way.


You will work with veterans and their families of all ages in a non-clinical way that values shared experiences of a peer and supports veterans and Families to engage actively and appropriately in services at the Hub. This includes facilitation of and support during social events, commemorative events, and case management.


Your input into clients wellbeing plans and group programs, will ensure that initiatives meet the needs of our clients and will be invaluable in making a positive difference in our client’s journey. You will also have the opportunity to join the LLW Lived Experience workforce and participate in the growth of this workforce within the organisation.


Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Initiate and participate in supportive conversations that help veterans and Families feel listened to, supported and less alone in their experience while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
  • Appropriately, and purposefully share parts of your own lived experience in relation to the challenges associated with the veteran journey.
  • Provide emotional and social support to the veterans and Families, and work with them in building their capacity to be part of their community.
  • Supporting veterans and Families to feel safe and to have their needs and preferences heard.
  • Represent veterans and Families and the Peer Support Program in wider consultations, committees, and meetings.


This is a permanent part time opportunity, working 15 hours per week. Ideally, you will be available to work Monday, Wednesday, and Friday each week as our activities calendar is managed around this schedule. 

The gross hourly pay rate will range between $37.35 and $40.05 per hour (pay rates effective from first full pay period in July) plus super, depending on knowledge, skills, and experience.

Additionally, you will possess the following:

Essential:

  • A lived experience or experience working with veterans and their families and/or DVA programs and a knowledge of the issues facing serving and non-serving defence personnel.
  • Willingness and ability to share your lived experience in a safe, purposeful way.
  • Ability to clearly describe the strategies and factors that have contributed to your recovery and wellbeing.
  • Demonstrated experience and effectiveness in working considerately and non-judgmentally. with people from diverse backgrounds, experiencing complex challenges.
  • Self-directed and able to work autonomously.
  • High level written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office Programs; Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Willingness to undertake relevant training and professional development.
  • Blue card or the ability obtain one.

Desirable

  • Previous experience in a Peer Support role or Lived Experience role.
  • Completed or nearing completion of a Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or other relevant qualification
