An exciting opportunity exists for a passionate and enthusiastic individual with lived experience of a Mental Health problem or of caring for a child or young person with Mental Health difficulties to join the Northern Beaches Child and YouthMental Health Service. NB CYMHS is a multi-disciplinary community Mental Health Service providing specialist assessment and intervention to children and young people experiencing severe and complex Mental Health difficulties through a range of individual, family based and group therapy programs. The Peer Worker will contribute to comprehensive care delivery and will utilise aspects of their own recovery experience to assist young people and their families with their respective recovery journeys.

NB CYMHS also provide clinical services through the Mona Vale and Dalwood community health centre sites.
What you'll be doing
The position will support the implementation and delivery of Child and Youth Mental Health (CYMHS) services within the recovery framework. This framework requires that services demonstrate a culture and language of hope and optimism, be person centred and holistic, support personal recovery, develop a workforce and organisational culture that is conducive to recovery and make active choices regarding social inclusion. Peer workers will use their lived experience and work collaboratively with other CYMHS staff to support and advocate for children and young people, their families and support people through purposeful sharing of their lived experience, inspiring hope that recovery is possible for all, modelling hope and wellbeing strategies that support recovery and challenging stigma associated with Mental Health problems. Peer workers also have a role in educating clinical staff and providing representative input into systemic issues through service development activities. Peer workers will receive appropriate training, supervision and support to carry out their roles.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:
Lived experience of a Mental Health problem or of supporting a child or young person with a Mental Health problem and ability and willingness to share aspects of your recovery experience with others, individually and in groups.
Demonstrated ability to build and foster effective working relationships with a diverse range of people, including people using CYMHS services, their families and support people, clinicians, managers and community members.
Understanding of the issues faced by children, young people, their families and support people who are receiving Mental Health care in community-based or hospital inpatient settings.
