MTS is now in its fifth year of operating Australia’s first fully automated passenger railway, the Sydney Metro North-West line, and will soon be extending this Metro line through to the City and Southwest. About the Role
Reporting directly to the Head of People and Culture the Business Partner plays a critical role in driving business outcomes through people initiatives by providing expert advice and guidance, delivering strategy, supporting the leadership team, building capability and managing change.
The role is critical to ensuring alignment between business operations and People and Culture practices and objectives in partnership with business leaders.
The position provides a high-level People and Culture (P&C) Business Partnering service to People leaders and employees for their allocated portfolio on a broad range of issues.
Key Responsibilities include:
Provide professional, business-focused People and Culture services to designated client groups.
Build trusted high-quality partnerships with divisional leadership teams in order to effectively progress the people agenda and strategy.
Develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of the allocated client group(s); their business objectives, challenges, risks and strategic goals.
Partner with business client groups to develop and deliver high quality people strategies and solutions to support the delivery of strategic and operational business objectives.
Provide expert advice, coaching and guidance to people leaders on a broad range of people matters to enable effective decision making in line with best practice human resources.
Pro-actively respond, support on matters relating to employee welfare, safety, employee relations and grievances as well as performance management.
Provide advice, guidance and support to divisional leadership teams for complex employment matters, discussions with employee representatives and unions as well as complaints and investigations.
Analyse trends and metrics to recommend the development of solutions, programs and policies.
Investigate complex people issues and provide proactive and evidence-based solutions in accordance with legislation, policy and guidelines to facilitate the management of the workforce.
Work with the People & Culture team to support the delivery of the People Plan and Strategy.
Implement HR-related programs within business units, such as rewards and recognition and employee engagement, wellbeing and development initiatives.
Collaborate with business leaders to design organisational structures, job roles, and talent management processes to drive organisational strategy.
Maintain an in-depth knowledge of Employment contracts, Awards, Enterprise Agreements and relevant employment legislation to be able to effectively and confidently advise Managers on industrial relations matters.
Contribute to the design, development and implementation of strategic workforce plans (focusing on capacity, capability, culture and change leadership) that are aligned with business goals and outcomes.
Provide strategic advice and support in the planning, implementation and evaluation of significant change management initiatives.
About You
The P&C Business Partner works within a team of Business Partners, providing accurate and timely advice and services to designated client group leaders, managers and staff. You are a skilled practitioner with a passion for people who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment. You have the ability to establish credibility and respectful relationships as a trusted advisor with a forward-thinking approach. You will have a background in the People and Culture field demonstrating experience that shows the ability to craft, own and implement people strategies across multiple business areas, producing tangible results.
With highly developed communication, persuasion and influencing skills you can easily build partnerships with internal and external stakeholders including senior leaders, and don’t shy away from challenging situations or conversations.
You have an enthusiastic and positive approach to your work combined with great planning and organisational skills, prioritising tasks to achieve outcomes whilst managing the expectations of a growing business.
