Location
The Greater Sydney region takes in Sydney down to Wollondilly / Sutherland, the Blue Mountains, Central Coast, and other areas as described by the Greater Sydney Local Land Services boundaries.
Office – Penrith, Castle Hill and working from home.
Classification/Tenure
Full-time position working a minimum of 35 hours per week for the duration of the funding.
Remuneration
Up to $43 per hour plus superannuation and entitlements per annum – dependent on experience.
Organisation Profile
Greater Sydney Landcare Network, known as Greater Sydney Landcare and Streamwatch, has a broad range of members, partners and potential members, including Landcare groups, groups of councils, professional land managers and major regional environmental networks.
Position/Role Objectives
The Local Landcare Coordinator is responsible for providing support to and assisting with coordination of local community volunteer Landcare groups.
The Local Landcare Coordinator (Young Adult) will focus on empowering Young Adult individuals and groups to participate in Landcare.
The Local Landcare Coordinator (Young Adult) will work with Greater Sydney Landcare and the Landcare groups, networks and organisations across Greater Sydney to support and empower them to achieve their own goals, to participate in Landcare, to partner with Local Land Services and other Government agencies and community organisations to deliver on the target outcomes of the NSW Landcare Enabling Program 2023-2027 (LEP).
Supported by, and working directly with Greater Sydney Landcare, the Local Landcare Coordinator will directly interact with Landcare and agencies at the local district and network scale. They will focus on empowering participation in Landcare by individuals and groups, to increase the capacity of these groups, to deliver against the target outcomes of the LEP.
The Local Landcare Coordinator will be expected to collaborate with a range of Landcare support mechanisms including other Local Coordinators, Regional Coordinators, Project officers, Landcare Committees, Local Government and Local Land Services.
Key Deliverables of a Local Landcare Coordinator:
Develop and deliver a Young Adult engagement program across Greater Sydney
  • Build partnerships and relationships with Young Adult groups (e.g. Intrepid Landcare, University groups) and existing Landcare and Bushcare groups, networks and organisations.
  • Event organisation – work with groups and networks to organise Landcare activities that attract and maintain Young Adult participation (e.g. adventure weekends).
  • Fundraising – develop grant submissions and other proposals to support Young Adult engagement program.
Local Landcare group and network support and advocacy
  • Community Liaison – act as a central contact point for Greater Sydney Landcare and other Landcare groups it supports to supply information to the public or members.
  • Stimulate local community engagement and participation in Landcare.
  • Provide support to groups, networks, Landcarers and landholders to participate in natural resource management activities that address critical agricultural sustainability and environmental issues.
  • Undertake and support planning for groups and projects.
Host organisation support and capacity building
  • Deliver projects on behalf of Greater Sydney Landcare with partners to achieve deliverables on time and budget.
  • Provide administration support to Greater Sydney Landcare, including utilising financial, communication and recording systems as required.
  • Regular communication with members and volunteers which may include creation of newsletters and social media content.
  • Managing database of information from Landcare to utilise in projects, including entering all partnerships and stakeholder details into Salesforce.
  • Communicating information on projects and group work to other members of the team/group.
  • Represent local group needs through participation in Regional and State Community of Practice.
  • Assisting in Grant Submissions, including project design and methodology.
  • Membership – actively seek to grow Greater Sydney Landcare membership and help to onboard new members and create on-going communication.
Reporting
  • Monitor, evaluate and report on activities and outcomes.
  • Facilitate linkages between Landcare activities/projects, Local Land Services and Landcare NSW through completion of case studies etc.
  • Work with Greater Sydney Landcare and Young Adult groups to develop and implement a Local Priority Action Plan.
  • Work with the Regional Coordinator to develop and support the implementation of Regional Priority Plan.
Reporting/Supervision arrangements
Position reports to the Greater Sydney Landcare Operations Manager and is supported by the Greater Sydney Landcare Committee.
Links to existing programs
The successful applicant will be working in a broader Landcare network, with support available. The Local Landcare Coordinator will work closely with GSL, its staff and committee, along with a broader network of Local Landcare Coordinators, Regional Landcare Coordinators and LLS staff across Greater Sydney and surrounding regions.
The successful applicant will work with Greater Sydney Landcare staff implementing major projects and programs to find opportunities to collaborate on shared objectives (e.g. Creating Canopies, Streamwatch, Southwest Sydney Koala Project).

  • Microsoft Office suite and ability to learn and operate computer systems such as QuickBooks and Salesforce.
Highly desirable skills and experience
  • Knowledge of partnerships, key stakeholders and on-ground network
  • Social Media Skills – ability to create and implement communication across social media on various platforms
  • Experience in project planning, management, record keeping and report writing and grant writing
  • Sound coordination, administration, and computer skills
  • Flexible about their working hours over the period of employment.
Selection Criterion
Please address each of the following criteria: * Sound understanding of natural resource management issues in the region and empathy with the local community and demonstrated experience or a qualification in Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, Sustainable Agriculture or similar.
  • Demonstrated well developed written and oral communication skills, including competency in the use of Word, Excel, email, Publisher, and the internet.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and develop community groups, including group facilitation, action planning and mediation skills.
  • Proven ability to work with Government agencies (local and state), community groups and landholders, including schools and indigenous groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimum supervision, use initiative and work as part of a team or network.
  • Ability and willingness to work outside office hours from time to time, to contact landholders and attend community group meetings.
  • Ability to travel from time to time.
  • Current Driver’s License and access to a vehicle.

Travel around the region and infrequent travel and overnight stays will be required.
