A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an energetic and highly organized medical secretary to provide exceptional support to a rapidly growing practice of a group of leading medical specialists in the field of respiratory and sleep medicine. Sydney West Respiratory & Sleep Centre is a new and modern practice located within Westmead Private Hospital in the Westmead Health Precinct and aims to provide a patient centred service, with a focus on lung cancer, interventional pulmonology, respiratory disorders, pleural disease, interstitial lung disease and sleep services.
We require an experienced additional medical receptionist to add to our team, who would be a friendly medical secretary that is passionate about providing excellent patient care and is a strong communicator and enjoys working in a team environment, particular focusing on patient needs and patient centred care.
Your strong organizational, communication, computer and administrative skills will be essential in assisting in the running of the practice. Ability to work with technology and new ways of working is highly desirable. You will work closely with all the specialists, respiratory scientist and secretarial staff to ensure an efficient and cohesive environment for the staff and all the patients.
Medical transcription experience not essential but highly desirable and may allow for more days of employment via negotiation, pending medical transcription ability.
This is a 0.6 FTE Permanent Part Time position, with availability to work on Mondays essential but other days negotiable.
Key areas of responsibility:
- Provide secretarial & PA support to specialist
- Booking & scheduling of appointments
- Answering incoming calls & patient enquiries
- Meet and greet patients
- Management of patient invoicing and receipting of consultations
- Co-ordinate patient investigations
- Arranging and booking pulmonary function tests and sleep studies
- Organising a surgical list
- Organise interpreters for patients when required
- Processing electronic Medicare billings, DVA claims and private insurance claims
- Creating & maintaining patient electronic medical records
- Printing, posting and faxing patient letters to relevant doctors
- Ordering office and medical supplies
- Basic database entry
- Medical transcription (not essential but highly desirable)
- Setting up of basic medical investigations (training will be provided)
- Various other office duties as required
The successful candidate will have:
- Minimum 3 years experience as a medical secretary
- Experience with Gentu or other similar medical billing programs would be an advantage
- Excellent customer service skills
- Exceptional communication skills
- Professional & personable telephone manners
- Proficient computer skills & with Microsoft software
- Knowledge of medical terminology and Medicare/health fund billing requirements desirable
- Ability to cope and work in a busy environment
- Fluent in written and verbal English
- Ability to speak Mandarin not essential but desirable
- Medical transcription skills not essential but highly desirable may be offered higher renumeration and possible 1.0FTE position
