What you'll be doing
Providing technical support for a wide range of activities within the Pharmacy department including:
Pharmacy reception duties:
Receiving prescriptions and checking for accuracy of patient’s information.
Taking payment for prescription co-payment utilising the point of sale electronic device and the cash register.
Referring any problems or issues which may occur to the Dispensary Manager for resolution.
Maintenance of stock
Distribution duties (Ward imprest & stock issue):
To supply items on ward imprest list to wards and other clinical units.
Maintain stock at an appropriate level, rotating stock and checking expiry dates.
Dispensary duties:
Dispense prescriptions for inpatients, discharges and outpatients in accordance with Departmental policy.
Answer telephone calls within individual capacity and pass on to pharmacists when appropriate.
Undertake filing of prescriptions/requisitions.
Co-ordinate stock returns from wards and either return stock to shelves or arrange for disposal in accordance with departmental policy.
Maintain an adequate supply of bottles, containers, labels etc. in the dispensary.
Non-aseptic manufacturing duties:
Prepare non-aseptic products according to methodology of the Manufactured Pack Report sheet and SHPA guidelines.
Prepare Daily Manufacturing Check List of products to be manufactured in conjunction with the supervising pharmacist.
Aseptic manufacturing duties:
Prepare sterile products aseptically in accordance with Department policy and procedures.
Undertake computer data entry and assist in protocol maintenance.
Undertake quality assurance activities and maintain documentation and records.
Cytotoxic reconstitution duties:
Prepare cytotoxic drugs in accordance with Departmental policy and procedures.
Observe occupational health and safety requirements.
Clean hoods, work areas and equipment in accordance to cleaning procedures.
Perform the environmental monitoring program of the suite.
Other duties:
Assist with administrative duties when necessary to cover staff absences.
Any other duties in accordance with award classification as requested by the Director of Pharmacy or delegates.
Attention to details and accuracy in undertaking all tasks
Ability to understand and adhere to legislative requirements, NSW Health and Departmental policies.
Ability to work as an effective team member.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Good computer skills and the ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
Recent hospital pharmacy or community pharmacy experience.
