We have an exciting opportunity for a Planning Investigations Officer to join the Planning and Environmental Health Services department. The Planning Services Unit plays an integral role in coordinating development within the Shire which accords with Council's planning and environmental policies. This position provides compliance and customer service expertise in order for Council to carry out its statutory obligations in administering and enforcing the Nillumbik Planning Scheme and Planning and Environment Act 1987.

A typical day in this position will entail;

o Promoting compliance within the community

o Investigating potential breaches of the Nillumbik Planning Scheme, and proactively ensuring compliance with planning permits and the Scheme

o Preparing evidence to support enforcement actions. Our team is valued for providing advice that is outcome-focused, scalable, appropriate, timely, and with delivering for the community at the heart of what we do.

What you'll bring to the role;

o Tertiary qualifications in town planning or regulatory services, and/or experience in the field of planning enforcement.

o Demonstrated experience conducting inspections and investigations.

o Ability to interpret planning scheme controls, and the ability to achieve appropriate negotiated outcomes to planning investigation and enforcement matters.

o Proven ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, the provisions of development control to all customers, including members of the community, Council officers, Government departments and Councillors.

o Proven ability to identify potentially complex problems and circumstances, identify key issues and possible solutions.

o Proven ability and commitment to working as a member of a team to ensure that the objectives of Council are achieved.

Temporary full-time position until 4 October 2024, commencing as soon as practicable. Competitive remuneration package of $86,177 to $98,143 total remuneration per annum that includes 11% super, annual leave loading and monthly RDOs. Diverse Planning Investigations role working in the urban and rural areas of the Shire.
