PM Shift Manager

The Company

Hunter & Northern Logistics is a privately owned transport and logistics company working directly for a single client who is a large player in the FMGC industry in NSW. Based at Huntingwood, on the client's site, we currently perform over 500 deliveries per day with a mix of specialised company and sub-contractor vehicles. A new opportunity has been secured by HNL and this recent growth requires an extra middle management position.

The Role

This position is the foundation to each, and every days, success. Ensuring all operational planning is actioned to achieve customer requirements.  

The role has become available due to the company growth and successfully winning a new contracts. The current PM Shift Manager is being moved into another position within the organisation.

You will have the ability to make this role your own and add a positive impact in our business. You can lead your shift team to success, driving results with hands on management of the PM operation. 

As PM Shift Manager, you will be responsible for all inbound & outbound loading and planning for a time sensitive supply chain. 

Management of Regional, Linehaul and Metro delivery service locations loading along with allocation to close regional and metro delivery fleet in preparation for the following day. 

Despatch coordination for the network, coverage management of unplanned leave or breakdowns. You will be required to re-arrange drivers and fleet depending upon volume, absences and last minute changes to requirements. 

Managing on-site relationships with customer face to face. 

A high level of focus on communication with the Customers team including any on road delays. DC outbound delays which will impact our network must be advised to our country partners. 

You will report directly to the Site Operations Manager. This is a Permanent position, working a roster from Monday to Friday inclusive, from 4pm to 2am.

Responsibilities

  • Management of on-site customer relations. 
  • Key communications with HNL Operations & DC Teams.
  • Rostering of drivers, including managing planned and unplanned leave.
  • Monitoring and documenting driver and maintenance issues to ensure we are complying with NHVAS standards.
  • Performing site inductions and toolboxing drivers to develop safety awareness and skilled performance. 
  • Resolution of issues, fleet efficiencies, continuous improvement to ensure that supply chain processes comply with  Safety Standards and COR requirements.
  • Performance management of drivers.
  • Management and control of drivers in accordance with Basic Fatigue Management regulations, including administrative processes required by BFM.
  • Execute transport services planned and to ensure client’s requirements are met.
  • Liaise with the workshop in relation to service and maintenance requirements.
  • Manage work allocation to ensure all services are up to date and forward planning is maximised.
  • Manage driver and equipment cleanliness, compliance and presentation.
  • Freight management ensuring both safety and maximum vehicle utilisation.
  • Shift Reporting, Service DIFOT, Staff absentees and fleet maintenance. 

Experience and Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • A good understanding of Microsoft Office and Excel is essential.
  • Good computer skills and experience working with Transport Management Systems.
  • Ability to determine and effectively meet priorities.
  • Knowledge of truck and trailer configurations.
  • Strong transport background in Supply Chain Primary and Secondary Freight. 
  • Experienced Timeslot planning and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Supply customer communication at a high standard.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise and work under pressure whilst achieving deadlines. 
  • Able to multi-task, share team responsibilities to maintain maximum level of prompt, efficient and courteous customer service.
  • Flexible approach to work to operate effectively in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail and accuracy.
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in a transport environment, in a logistics operations Supervisor or Manager role, with good knowledge of NSW metro, regional, interstate supply.
  • Proven understanding of Fatigue Management and Chain of Responsibility.
