Job Description
The Policy Adviser will provide additional research capacity to the Tasmanian Green MPs and support the Policy and Parliamentary Adviser with research assistance and parliamentary work. The Policy Adviser will also manage Right to Information requests.
Duties
- Provide research assistance to the MPs, Policy & Parliamentary Adviser and other staff in preparation for speeches, policy development and parliamentary business including committees and the alternative budget.
- Analyse reports and data to extract key insights and prepare written reports and translate results into easily comprehensible reports for the policy and media teams.
- Oversee and manage Right to Information requests and responses, including identifying opportunities for media or outreach.
- Draft speeches and provide policy notes for debates in Parliament.
- Provide advice on policy matters and fact checking for communications and media purposes.
- Draft policy initiatives and related documents and assist in responding to inquiries for policy background information.
Essential Requirements
N/A
Desirable Requirements
Tertiary qualifications in Public Policy, Law or Political Science.
Knowledge of the Tasmanian political system, Green politics and issues.

Position Description
Crown Prerogative Appointments
Employees of Members of Parliament are appointed with Crown Prerogative Instruments of Appointment. These staff are not State Service employees as they are not employed under the provisions of
the State Service Act 2000, or Award employees.
The period of appointment for these Appointees is:
- For the pleasure of the Premier’s delegate (the Leader of the Tasmanian Greens); or
- Until the resignation or termination of the Government; or
- For a period specified in the Instrument.
whichever occurs first.
Unless advertised for being for a specific period, there is not proposed to be a specific termination period in the instrument of appointment.
After an election contracts may be renewed for another term.
