We are looking for a Policy Advisor - Sustainability to join our policy and advocacy team.
A sustainability all-rounder who loves to get in and get the job done, you will be working in a small but mighty team - alongside some of the country’s most prestigious and high impact retail brands.
You’re a results-driven sustainability professional with experience in project delivery, stakeholder management and technical/creative writing with subject-matter expertise across our focus areas of climate change, circular economy and ethical trade.
You won’t be afraid to roll up your sleeves to get the best outcome for members and the sector, which could mean implementing projects, working with members to draft submissions, writing member briefings and newsletter content, responding to stakeholder queries, producing content for social media.
You will excel at developing mutually beneficial relationships that will create real value for the ARA’s members and help embed sustainability across our sector.
Sustainability experience is a must. Insights into retail preferred. Your experience in a similar role for a not-for-profit organisation or membership association would be valuable but not essential.
Responsibilities
- Shape and implement the ARA’s agenda-setting program in the areas of climate action, natural capital and ethical trade.
- Consult with members and draft submissions on sustainability issues important to the retail sector.
- Manage relationships with members, key delivery partners and stakeholders in government and the NGO sector, to deliver great outcomes for members and the sector.
- Work with the ARA’s Policy and Marketing teams to capture insights from members, engage government and create engaging content that builds capability around sustainability in retail.
- Run sustainability initiatives and campaigns from concept to execution.
- Ensure achievement of KPI's, including positive advocacy outcomes for ARA and members.
Selection Criteria
- 3-5 years+ sustainability and stakeholder management experience.
- Versatile written skills capable of submissions, technical writing, blogs and member newsletters, media and social media content.
- Confident verbal communication skills.
- Well-developed organisational skills including demonstrated ability to manage multiple deadlines and competing priorities.
- Attention to detail.
- Strong stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, in complex multi-stakeholder environments.
- Flexibility and a solid work ethic.
